Those in high positions are like branches of trees, without action; the people are like wild deer, content and unconcerned. Righteousness is observed, but not considered righteous; love is felt, but not considered benevolence; sincerity is practiced, but not considered loyalty; propriety is maintained, but not considered trustworthiness. The people help each other, but do not consider it a gift. Therefore, actions have no trace, and affairs have no rumors.To be 'no-action,' everything is extremely natural, behavior is upright, people love each other, being sincere, and propriety is maintained, and the people help each other – these are all natural expressions of one's nature, without deserving of boasting, glorifying, or publicity. Nature is natural, everything follows nature, and that is the most natural thing.Therefore, losing virtue is losing goodness, losing goodness is losing benevolence, and losing benevolence is losing righteousness. When we praise good people and good deeds, we are indicating that not everyone is good, and not everyone does good things. Therefore, occasional good people and good deeds are very precious.Two. It is important for a person to know their own limitations.Knowing oneself is not great foolishness; knowing oneself is confused is not great confusion. Great confusion is incurable throughout one's life; great foolishness is incapable of brilliance throughout one's life.Knowing that one is foolish does not necessarily constitute great foolishness; knowing that one is confused is not necessarily great confusion. Truly foolish people don't know they're foolish, and even think themselves clever. Similarly, truly perplexed people don't consider themselves perplexed, and even think themselves clever and quick-witted. Those who consider themselves clever are not truly clever; those who think themselves foolish are not too foolish, at least not the greatest foolishness, because they still have self-awareness. A person should value self-awareness, not inflate oneself, nor should one unduly belittle oneself.Three. Don't think too highly of yourself.The way of Heaven operates without interruption, therefore things come into being; the way of emperors and sages operates without interruption, therefore the world is united; the way of sages operates without interruption, therefore the four seas obey.The operation of Heaven, the way of emperors and sages, and the way of sages are all without intention. 'Without accumulation,' there is no accumulation of merit, no self-assertion, no self-belief, therefore things are created, the world is united, and the four seas obey.Those who think too highly of themselves are not truly great; even if they have a little greatness, it is due to arrogance and self-importance, which diminishes it; only those who don't think too highly of themselves are truly great. Humility, without intention, and self-sufficiency are excellent virtues.Four. If the mind is free of obstacles, the heart can be still.The quietness of a sage is not because all things are quiet, but because there is nothing that can disturb his heart. Therefore, it is quiet. Because the things of this world cannot cause him to be troubled, it is quiet.The quietness of the sage's heart comes from the fact that the sage does not disturb the people, and the people's hearts are quiet. Therefore, it is quiet. Things seen are not felt, and there is nothing in the heart to disturb it, so the heart can be quiet. In life, the most important thing is to obtain a tranquil mind. When a tranquil pool is splashed with a stone, ripples are created. The same applies to the heart.
