Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Form, 29th Form, Action 4 – Left Progressive Lean
Let's continue to explain the 29th practical form of Chen's Taijiquan – Shang Yun Shou (Up Cloud Hand) – action 4.
The fourth action of Shang Yun Shou is called 'Left Progressive Lean'.
I. Action Analysis
1. Eye Focus:
Firstly, continue with the eye focus from the previous action.
2. Stance:
Turn your body to the right, with your chest facing forward.
3. Footwork:
The leg circling technique becomes right clockwise and left counterclockwise.
Right Leg:
Right leg circling clockwise, establish the heel, because our previous action was right rear-step, and in the transition, it becomes a left side small step. Its stance change is contained within.
At this time, our right leg circling clockwise, bend your knee, and maintain a collapsed posture.
Left Leg:
Simultaneously, our left leg counterclockwise circling, lift your heel and extend it towards the left side, taking a big step (approximately three shoulder-widths) outwards.
Note that the position of the step should be within the parallel line, avoiding stepping forward, otherwise your support will be unstable and will not form a solid triangular stance.
After stepping out, it becomes a left side horse step.
We should pay attention to its stance change, such as body change, through spiral force downwards, forming a stance.
4. Technique:
Our technique complements the stance and footwork.
Left Hand:
Left hand moves along an arc, relaxed shoulders, bent elbows, inward, to the right, circling inward and turning to the chest.
Keep your palm facing the right upper diagonal angle, with your middle finger pointing upwards to the right front upper diagonal angle.
Right Hand:
Simultaneously, our right hand counterclockwise circling outward to the right upper diagonal angle.
Where does it turn out to be? Keep your palm facing the right front lower diagonal angle, with your middle finger pointing upwards to the left front upper diagonal angle.
This creates a leaning force.
II. Action Effect
Its function is:
The opponent is still pressing on my elbow joint, on the left side.
I achieve a leaning force, turning my right hand, to maintain balance.
Okay, today I've covered this far, thank you everyone!
