Entry-Level Headphones: JADEEA3 In-Ear Iron Earphones Review and Evaluation

Sample Source: Self-Purchased

Sample Type: Mass Production Version of Marketed Products

In the second half of 19, Flyov brilliantly launched a new sub-brand 'JadeAudio/JadeSound', seemingly intending to forge a different path in the headphone market today. Given its design, it appears to be a 'badge-swap' product from Flyov, and the headphone we're reviewing here was validated in new products released by Flyov at the end of 19.

The launch of EA3 allowed people to see a new 'value for money' approach, namely using limited costs on the product itself. At a price of 299 yuan, EA3 was immediately very appealing to 'new burners'. The 13.6mm dynamic unit plus the 33518 iron unit is a rare configuration at this price point, and it's produced by Flyov. Many fans have private messages to us asking whether EA3 is worth buying, and our opinion is still to view it rationally and calmly, of course, without a lot of money.

01. Packaging and Accessories

It can be said without exaggeration that the packaging for EA3 is the most 'minimal' at a price of 300 yuan, especially among independent headphone brands that focus on packaging and accessories. EA3's packaging is almost 'humble'. Of course, as we said at the beginning, EA3 is compressing costs into the headphones themselves. Since you've chosen a high-value-for-money product, you need to make some compromises. In the early days, Xiaomi canceled the included headphones on smartphones for the same reason.

The EA3 packaging has nothing special to say, the plastic packaging box body, the front is a cardboard cover. Printed with the brand logo and a conspicuous 'golden standard', other information is on the back of the packaging sticker. The packaging box left upper corner has a Flyov LOGO, it's not difficult to see that EA3 packaging is likely a product inventory packaging of Flyov, it's obvious.

Packaging Box Front

This packaging box has no design sense, and it won't give you any surprise when you pick it up. You can directly see the headphones and a storage bag.

Accessories, EA3 does not look very thoughtful, but there is actually some sincerity. Two different diameter silicone sleeves, a silver-plated headphone cable, and a headphone bag. Although the workmanship is not very good, it's enough for entry-level audio enthusiasts, because many users who buy EA3 are just to buy a 'better sounding' headphone, because they don't spend much money.

02. Appearance and Craftsmanship

At the beginning, we thought Flyov launched a low-priced resin mold headphone. But upon closer thought, the standard size resin ear cup is difficult to fit the 13.6mm unit. However, EA3's official renderings are very impressive, in fact, this is just a standard plastic mold piece. Of course, the workmanship is another matter.

The cavity shape of EA3 is exactly the same as TFZ's heirloom mold, but EA3 used metal material for the guide tube, which looks a little more upscale. This blue version of EA3 is the most popular one, and it looks good when held, giving you a visual surprise. EA3's plastic shell also has a translucent back panel, which looks more like a resin headphone.

Translucent Back Panel Design

In addition, EA3's shell also adopts a semi-transparent design, allowing you to see the internal structure and accessories. This makes the 13.6mm large dynamic unit look even more 'muscular', which can give users a strong visual impact. For novice users, EA3 is very in-tune with this level of detail, and can also give you more satisfaction and purchase motivation.

Regarding wearing comfort, EA3 can be praised. Because market has already proved it, it's very suitable for everyone, but there will be some discomfort. It's the same with EA3.

Compared to Flyov's FH1

High Frequency

EA3's high-frequency style is similar to FH1, and they have almost the same tracks. But EA3's high-frequency transparency is slightly worse than FH1, and the same iron unit is vertically arranged in the same way. EA3's iron unit is in a 'coaxial' form, unlike 'parallel' arrangement, which is not a good solution, but EA3's shell cannot be arranged in parallel.

EA3's high-frequency quality is not bad, compared to price-sensitive headphones like H297 and HZ5, it's much better, but in terms of high-frequency performance, it's slightly abrupt, this is a weakness in EA3's high-frequency processing, while compared to FH1, it's much better, presumably due to different dividers?

Therefore, EA3's high-frequency performance is an advantage at 300 yuan price level, but if compared to FH1, there is a gap. There's no major problem, the sound is tolerable, and the transparency is general, this is not a fatal defect for EA3, but it may make the first impression slightly 'two-pronged' and not very pleasing, which is EA3's weakness in high-frequency processing.

Compared to H297

Mid Frequency

EA3's mid-range is slightly thinner and colder, compared to FH1 and H297, it's lacking in thickness, making the vocals and instruments sound a bit dry. Of course, from another perspective, the parsing ability of the mid-range is guaranteed. In fact, this dynamic unit and the 33518 matching are not very good, presumably because this unit's low and mid-frequency is too popular, so the mid-range has been taken as a compromise.

The voice is not EA3's strong point, but it's not too close to the ears, and the sense of distance is well maintained. Compared to H297, EA3's mid-range is better, of course, if you don't like this thin and cold mid-range sound, then it's another matter.

Therefore, we don't like to pick out too much flaws for EA3's mid-range, this level of performance is enough to show its value for money, but it doesn't exist as a fatal defect. Because H297 also has its own preferred audience, of course, if you plan to buy FH1, don't take EA3 seriously, the two are completely different.

Low Frequency

SummaryEA3 is Flyov's first earphone product, it's not a 'bucket product', there are still problems, but its value for money is undeniable. It's clear that EA3 is a product that's a little 'complicated', the packaging and accessories are extremely minimal, which brings a good configuration, and the tuning isn't a strong point, so it's difficult to sit on the top of the entry-level headphone market. It can be seen that EA3 is still a product that's a bit 'compromised', the packaging and accessories are extremely minimal, which brings a good value for money, and the tuning isn't a strong point, so it's difficult to sit on the top of the entry-level headphone market.
