Rong'an: Golden Rice Fields, Egrets Dance Gracefully
Recently, in Wubei Village, Chengwei Township, large flocks of egrets are frequently seen dancing in the lush paddy fields, sometimes bending their heads to preen, sometimes circling in the air, bringing vitality to this spring, a wonderful picture of harmonious coexistence between humans and wild animals.
Egrets’ selection of habitats requires abundant food and a safe environment. This group of egrets in Wubei Village consists mainly of white egrets and gray egrets. According to nearby villagers, these egrets used to appear only in winter.
In recent years, with villagers’ awareness of protecting wildlife becoming increasingly strong, the fertilizers and pesticides used by farmers when planting rice are decreasing, and the environment is becoming better, more small fish, small shrimp and insects are appearing in the paddy fields, which has created a good living environment for the egrets, making them love this place. In recent years, the egret group has appeared in Wubei Village, Chengwei Township, all year round, with the most in the early morning and evening in spring, reaching several hundred.
The spring paddy fields are rippling with green waves, and a large number of egrets stand in the middle of the fields in an orderly manner, like a bunch of white gemstones embedded in green grasslands. Amidst green grass and blue water, egrets occasionally take flight, circling in the air, or a group of egrets take off, dancing between the blue sky and the paddy fields. The green rice seedlings look at the white egrets, a beautiful scene of ‘a flock of white egrets soaring into the sky’.
Due to the fact that the paddy fields are beside the road and next to the villagers’ houses, it is often possible to see a harmonious scene where people walk on the road or work in the fields, and a group of egrets feeds and plays nearby. The egrets know that the villagers will not harm them, perhaps this is the best way for humans and egrets and wild animals to coexist.
