Anhui Province Initially Belonged to Jiangnan Province, Named After These Two Regions, and Always Draws Tourists
When talking about tourism in Anhui, tourists usually immediately think of Huangshan Scenic Area and Hongcun. When talking about Jiangnan tourism, tourists immediately think of Suzhou classical gardens, Yangzhong Shwetan, Nanjing Fuzimiao and West Lake in Hangzhou, etc. Narrowly defined Jiangnan refers to the south of Jiangsu, Shanghai and the northern part of Zhejiang, and many tourists don't know that Anhui was originally a legitimate 'Jiangnan'.
In the Qing Dynasty, the present-day Anhui, Shanghai and Jiangsu were roughly under the jurisdiction of the Jiangnan Province. This province was the wealthiest province at that time, also the most populous and with the most tourist attractions. Due to its large volume, the Jiangnan Province was later split, with the first characters of Anqing and Huguo used as the names of provinces.
In the past, the capital of Anhui was located in Anqing City. It was not formally established as the capital until 1952. Although Anqing was separated from the capital, this city's natural tourism resources are incomparable to those of Hefei. Many tourists don't know that the abbreviation 'Wan' for Anhui comes from its ancient name 'Wan Shan' and 'Wan Gong Shan', which is a famous mountain in Anqing, now known as Tianzhushan.
Tianzhushan Scenic Area is one of the Five Sacred Mountains, and it was the earliest to become the Southern Sacred Mountain. Here is a typical granite landform, with ancient pines and strange stones, bizarre peaks and valleys, which is fascinating. It has been a favorite place for writers and travelers since ancient times.
Tianzhushan and Huangshan Scenic Area have a similar charm, but compared to Huangshan Scenic Area, there are far fewer tourists here.
The Three Ancestral Temples of Anqing Qian Shan originated during the Liang Emperor's reign of the Southern Dynasty, and have a history of more than a thousand years. The tourists here are even fewer than Tianzhushan Scenic Area.
The ancient temple is hidden deep in the mountains and forests, with a feeling that is not disturbed by the mundane world.
As early as in ancient times, the Three Ancestral Temples were a favorite place for writers and travelers, such as Wang Anshi, Su Dongpo, and Huang Tingjian. The architecture of this ancient temple is grand and majestic, with colors mainly in brown and black.
Huangshan Scenic Area has great fame in China, and is deservedly the first mountain in Anhui. Many tourists have a question in their minds, since Anhui is named after Anqing and Huguo, where is Huguo now?
The current Huangshan City area is now under the jurisdiction of the old Huguo area. At the time of the city's founding, it was to improve its recognition and overall competitiveness, so it was named after Huangshan.
I have been to Anhui many times and have a very deep impression of Huangshan Scenic Area. The clouds and weather of Huangshan Scenic Area are completely different every day, and the scenery presented is completely different.
Huangshan Scenic Area is a World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site. Lotus Peak, Guangming Peak and Tiandou Peak are known as the Three Major Peaks. Climbing to a high vantage point, you can see a hazy sea of clouds, the mountains are connected in a long and undulating manner, and the scenery is magnificent.
Many famous travelers and writers in ancient times, such as Xu Xiake, loved Huangshan the most and had the deepest influence. The saying 'After returning from Huangshan, you won't look at Yue' originated from his works.
