1. Willow Wave Singing
The poem says, 'Moonlight and mist shimmer in the smoke-filled pavilions, emerging from the towers. The sound of flutes and laughter echoes in the clouds, and a person is in Penglai.'

This is the appearance of Willow Wave Singing during the Southern Song Dynasty.

At that time, the Southern Song Emperor built the 'Gathering Scenery Garden' outside Qingpo Gate, named 'West Garden' because it was located to the west of the city. The garden's scope was very large, extending north to Qingpo Gate and south to Yongjin Gate, with the east bordering the city wall and the west facing West Lake. Every spring, in March with a gentle breeze, the water waves resembled wrinkles, and the willow trees in the garden danced in the wind, seemingly like a wave, with the water rippling and turbulent, very captivating. According to Zhou Mi's 'Old Things of Martial Arts', in the second year of the Great (1167), in March, after the Emperor abdicated, he came to this place several times to admire flowers and scenery. After that, the Southern Song Emperor, the Prince Regent, and the Emperor Ning were all frequent visitors to the garden.
At the end of the Southern Song and the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty, Yuan troops trampled into Lin'an, and the Gathering Scenery Garden, a precious gem, turned to ash, becoming 'Scattered Scenery Garden'. Its southern area was designated as a burial ground for Muslim migrants who followed the Yuan army south to Hangzhou. From the middle and late Ming to the early Qing, the Gathering Scenery Garden, which had once flourished, presented a bleak scene. During the Qing Yongzheng years, Li Wei dredged West Lake and rebuilt the old scenery. However, with the turmoil in the late Qing, war ravaged the land, and no one was spared. It wasn't until 1959 that Willow Wave Singing was rebuilt, and its former glory reappeared.

Now, along the lake's continuous thousand-meter-long embankment and within the main streets of the garden, peach and willow trees are planted in abundance. Hundreds of willow trees form a row, thousands form a smoke, fine willow strands interweave, yellow warblers fly and sing, competing to cry. When the spring colors are more vibrant, the peach blossoms bloom, scattered dots adorn the willows, fragrant the lake breeze, green the embankment. This is the 'Willow Wave' exquisite scenery too.Source: West Lake Management OfficeEditor:
