Hearing the Birds of Spring, Meng Haoran Composed a Poem That Echoes Through the Ages
Spring is intoxicating. Everything is reviving, and birds are singing and dancing everywhere, with flowers blooming in red and willows in green, full of vitality. Especially in the countryside, in the fields, the earth is soft, the hillside is covered with green, and the air also exudes a refreshing scent.

People have just come from winter, it seems that the tiredness formed by the cold has not completely disappeared, as soon as the temperature rises, the body feels comfortable, they want to make up for the loss, so they have spring sleep.
Some are listless during the day, confused and sleepy, as if they want to sleep. Some are sleepy at night, and they don't wake up in the morning, and the bird calls outside still wake them up.
Today we are going to talk about Meng Haoran, who is just like this person. He failed the imperial examinations repeatedly, couldn't get a government position, and the emperor said he was 'unworthy of the master' and 'abandoned him.' He went to Zhang Jiu-ling, a counselor, and said, 'To reach a destination without a boat, one must be in a desolate place to gain favor,' but he didn't succeed.
So Meng Haoran abandoned this idea and retired to his hometown, Lu Men Mountain, living a carefree and independent life. Without official position, he had nothing to do, and slept through the whole day. He was woken up by bird calls in the morning and still wanted to sleep longer.
This is a good sleep! It's sweet, so much so that when it's daylight, you don't even know it. It perfectly expresses the harmonious coexistence of man and nature,
The first two sentences describe the pleasant sleep, sleeping sweetly until dawn, thus making it difficult to know the time. It expresses the desire of the people for the arrival of spring,
The second part of the poem recalls the rain and fallen flowers through recollection, expressing a sense of regret and sadness for the early passing of spring,

At this time, the poet lived in Lu Men Mountain, although he had just woken up from sleep, he did not get up. Because all the descriptions are auditory, such as the sound of rain and bird calls, which can be felt without going outside. Getting up would ruin these beautiful scenes,
Just like Li Qingzhao later wrote, 'Last night's rain was sparse and the wind was sudden,' she asked the window washer, 'What about the peonies outside?' She didn't go downstairs to find out, they must all be covered in fallen flowers, green and withered,
Poets have strange habits of conceiving and writing. Zhang Zhehuo, who wrote 'Spring River Flower Moon Night,' wanted to write poetry while still in bed. Li He wanted to write poetry while riding on a donkey. Yang Xiu wrote most of his poems while riding on a horse or in bed,
But Meng Haoran, in the morning, after waking up from sleep, didn't hurry to get up, but continued to sleep, listen to the bird calls, and used this to recall the sound of rain, and then conceived and wrote a poem, which is normal. If he got up, he might disrupt his thoughts and ruin the inspiration that came to him,
Why has Meng Haoran's 'Spring Dawn' been passed down through the ages and even included in textbooks as an immortal masterpiece? Simply put, it has several characteristics,
First, it reflects spring and spring light, which are major themes. People are tired of the cold and summer, especially when they are huddled in thick cotton clothes and shivering in the winter, they long for spring to arrive sooner. Meng Haoran's poem expresses this desire,

Secondly, the poem reflects people's wish to appreciate and enjoy the beauty of nature. There is no grand theme in the poem, it simply expresses the sounds of rain and bird calls, emphasizing the feeling of enjoying the benefits and harmony between man and nature,
Thirdly, the poem's style is simple and easy to understand. It doesn't have obscure allusions, doesn't use fancy words, and doesn't have intricate embellishments, it's like chatting with a friend, which is easy for people to accept,
It can be said that among the many poems describing spring, Meng Haoran's 'Spring Dawn' is unique. It can be compared to Du Fu's 'Spring Night Joy Rain,' and they are both masterpieces describing spring,
