Truly outstanding people often ‘say nothing and do nothing.’
There's an old saying that goes, 'Silence is golden.' It tells us that truly successful people don't chatter incessantly or boast about their achievements, but rather quietly rise to prominence in the shadows, only to be recognized later when everyone else is amazed.
In fact, maintaining 'silence' is important in life, and so is maintaining 'silence.' Silence is precious, and as people grow older, they come to appreciate the depth of silence. Silence isn't about having nothing to say, but about learning to be quiet, with a changed temperament and personality. It allows you to survive in society's tight corners. Life has its ups and downs, and gains and losses can be faced with equanimity.
Truly outstanding people often 'say nothing and do nothing.' The more people who don't speak, the more peaceful and self-assured they become. They have more time for solitude, and their inner strength grows—like the vastness of the ocean or the steadfastness of a mountain.
1. When faced with pressure, one should bear it alone, not complaining incessantly.
Auntie Wei runs a gift shop. Last autumn, when Auntie Wei was traveling abroad on business, she discovered that wild kiwifruit in other areas were very expensive, while kiwifruit in her county were cheap. She thought this was a good business opportunity and invested 200,000 to purchase wild kiwifruit from rural areas, and hired two refrigerated trucks to transport them to Wuhan and Hangzhou for sale. However, the market was unstable, and the prices plummeted, so Auntie Wei didn't make a profit but incurred a loss of over 100,000.
Adding to the difficulties of the gift shop, she transferred the store, and no one knew where she went. Her parents called to ask about her whereabouts, and she told them, 'You don't need to worry about me; I'll be back in two years.' From last autumn to this year, what Auntie Wei was doing, her parents didn't know, only that she was living well outside, and that was enough to reassure them.
Last month, Auntie Wei came home, driving a ten-thousand-dollar car. The villagers were envious. It turned out that the money Auntie Wei earned from selling kiwifruit was borrowed from friends, and the interest was very high. Auntie Wei couldn't repay it in a short time and was afraid of being threatened, so she left the county and went to Zhejiang to work.
Auntie Wei is a shrewd person. She worked in the factory for half a year before starting a business selling recycled plastic. She processed the waste plastic into products and sold them, increasing her profits. After more than a year, Auntie Wei not only repaid her debts but also bought a car. We only saw her success but often overlooked the pressure she faced – dodging creditors while building her network and raising capital. Auntie Wei's ability to withstand pressure is stronger than most people's.
A person who faces hardship with fortitude, regardless of the pressure, is a truly strong person. They don't let themselves be overwhelmed or collapse in the face of adversity, and they don't complain to their parents.
2. Let bygones be bygones and don't dwell on the past.
'Three women and a play.' However, my colleague Meihua doesn't like to talk much, and she works diligently except when discussing work. Once, a group of women were gossiping about the leader's family, and someone used their peripheral vision to watch Meihua, meaning, 'She suspects that the leader's family is not harmonious, and might be related to Meihua.' It was a wasted effort.
Smart people don't gossip about others' affairs; they focus wholeheartedly on their own affairs. Even when they hear rumors about themselves, they ignore them and move on.
As the saying goes, 'If three women perform a play, it's a success.' However, my colleague Meihua doesn't like to talk much, and she works diligently except when discussing work. Once, a group of women were gossiping about the leader's family, and someone used their peripheral vision to watch Meihua, meaning, 'She suspects that the leader's family is not harmonious, and might be related to Meihua.' It was a wasted effort.
After a while, Meihua was promoted to Deputy Manager of the Production Department. The women who were used to gossiping were transferred to the warehouse to work as administrators. The reason was that those women had spread rumors about the leader, and the rumor had reached the leader's ears, causing trouble.
Truly outstanding people do 'not speak and do not act'; they live a life of their own.
'When the heart is still, the wind doesn't matter.' A person's inner strength grows as their heart becomes more stable. When facing the world, they maintain a calm and quiet attitude, making them indifferent to everything and unwilling to argue with others, nor do they complain about difficulties and past hurts.
'Those who don't speak and do nothing' are calm and have a serene demeanor, making their faces appear more beautiful than others. They can endure inner turmoil and face life with a smile, using their wisdom to solve problems. It's better to think quietly than to fill your mouth with empty words.
When you face difficulties, take some time to reflect on what you did wrong and what you did right; your thinking will become clearer, and your steps in life will not be confused.
Truly outstanding people can 'speak nothing and do nothing'; they live a life of quiet dignity, and they proceed in silence, using their silence to achieve great things.
