Evening Conversations in Winter: 27 Years of Unabandoned Promise
Text by Liu Hao Yuan bgm | Luo Wei
Life's journey is often filled with dense thorns, but life ultimately won't disappoint those who are (active and diligent). Because of love, we fear no storms.
Once, Hong Mei and a man had a promise – to build him a big house. Now the house is built, but that man disappeared 27 years later.
In Hong Mei's memory, the most profound is the small earthen house where they used to live, with walls built of mud and earth bricks, and a wooden roof supported by tiles.
When the wind blew and it rained, mud and dirt would fall with the wind, and the raindrops would trickle down from the roof rafters onto the mud floor. Her family would hurry to catch the water with buckets and basins.
Hong Mei and her brother grew used to falling asleep to the sound of drizzle.
When she was little, Hong Mei would hold her brother's chubby hands, 'Let's study hard, when we grow up, I'll build you a house that won't leak, okay?'
Her brother was especially happy, with a fresh and clear smile on his innocent face, 'Then I want to live upstairs.'
Though their home was poor, the earthen house held too many happy memories.
Until one day, a nightmare came, and her 10-year-old brother disappeared unexpectedly. Her elderly parents, on the verge of collapse, as the eldest daughter of the family, Hong Mei could only carry the broken home on her shoulders.
She toiled diligently in the factory, wiping away tears from her scarred hands, with one belief in her heart – that one day she would find her brother and fulfill their promise.
I must earn more money, and build a big house.
At 36, Hong Mei finally bought three acres of land and built a two-story house with her savings, and the largest room upstairs was left for her brother.
When Hong Mei found her brother at 'Waiting for Me', 27 years of silent perseverance brought about a joyful reunion.

Already a cliff of a hundred feet of ice, there are still graceful branches.
Because of the undying love and hope, the light will eventually pierce through the thorns and point to the happy ending.
