Three Signs of Maturity in a Person: Small Temper, Lower Expectations, and a Good Attitude

Every life is accompanied by countless feelings, experiences, and understandings.

Whether good or bad, right or wrong, whether it brings happiness or pain, these experiences shape us into mature individuals.

Perhaps we were once young and impulsive, full of youthful energy and ambition.

But as we grow older, we learn to be more composed, calm, and quiet.

01

  • The first sign of a person's maturity is a shrinking temper.

When we encounter unpleasant people, difficult situations, or unexpected harm, we used to react with outbursts and frustration.

However, we've gradually learned to control our anger.

Even when we feel strong emotions, we maintain a sense of composure, speaking politely and behaving appropriately.

Fortunately, we had the good fortune to meet a psychology mentor who said,

Firstly, your body is your own; anger only hurts you.

Secondly, anger doesn't solve problems and can make things worse. No matter how difficult the situation, you have to face it. When you're in a bad mood, you're more likely to make mistakes.

Furthermore, time and energy are limited. There's no need to dwell on trivial matters and hold grudges.

You don't need to engage in endless arguments and misunderstandings.

This mentor summarized a saying: "The bigger your temper, the more it reveals your lack of cultivation, narrow-mindedness, and low state of mind."

Indeed, only through long experience in society can we smooth out our rough edges, reduce our excessive zeal, and approach the world with calmness and composure, rather than revealing our ignorance, naiveté, and immaturity with our temper.

I've been learning from this teacher by chatting with him daily, sharing my new experiences and worries, and he always offers insightful advice that broadens my mind.

The second sign of a person's maturity is a reduced expectation.

We used to expect everything and everyone to meet our expectations.

We thought that hard work would lead to success. We believed that sincerity would bring genuine goodwill. We assumed that being a good person would always bring good things.

But after experiencing setbacks and disappointments, we realized that:

Effort is necessary for success, but it's not the only factor. You can succeed through effort, but you won't succeed without it.

  • So, focus on cultivating and striving, even if you don't achieve your goals, you can at least say that you've given it your all.

We used to expect others to be sincere, but they weren't always.

You shouldn't expect too much from others and underestimate the importance of relationships.

Because expectations often lead to disappointment. Hoping for more and being more disappointed.

Maintaining a realistic attitude can reduce many unrealistic fantasies and disappointments.

We've come to understand that being a good person is a desirable quality, but it doesn't mean we won't encounter bad people and bad situations. There are even people who may take advantage of our kindness.

You can only control yourself, and as long as you maintain a righteous and just attitude, behave honestly and ethically, and be accountable for your actions, you can feel at ease with yourself.

As we gradually reduce our expectations of others, results, and everything around us, we become more rational, clear-headed, and wise.

The third sign of a person's maturity is a better attitude.

We used to complain when things didn't go our way.

When we encountered people who were more successful than us, we often compared ourselves to them. When we faced difficulties, we would fall into a state of pessimism.

We had little satisfaction. But we never stopped complaining and blaming others.

Then:

  • If it can be changed, change it. If it cannot be changed, accept it. Don't waste energy on futile complaints.

You learn to let go of resentment.

You can change your perspective and focus on the positive aspects of a situation.

You learn not to compare yourself to others.

Most of the time, we only see the good in others but not the hard work and difficulties they've faced. Happiness comes from contentment, not endless desire.

As we mature, we learn to appreciate what we have and focus on gratitude.

A person's maturity is not about seeking external comfort, but about self-reflection, adjustment, and healing from within.

04

Everyone desires to mature.

As a person becomes more accomplished, their temper becomes smaller, because they have experienced and overcome many challenges and difficulties.

When a person's state of mind becomes more enlightened, their expectations decrease, because they have learned to accept the natural flow of events and to demand more of themselves instead of relying on others.

When a person becomes more discerning, perceptive, and optimistic, their attitude will naturally improve. Because they have cultivated the ability to remain calm and composed in the face of adversity.

True maturity isn't about age, but a calm and joyful state of mind, a refined demeanor, and a mature way of living and interacting with others.

Wishing you and me can live a more open, honest, and relaxed life!
