When You Feel Life is Difficult, Read These Five Sentences
If you are currently in a trough, feeling life is so difficult, exhausted from living, why not stop and take a look, calm your mind, and read the following sentences carefully.
These sentences may enlighten you, restore you to full health.
01
Taken from 'Les Misérables'
The widest of all is the ocean, wider than the ocean is the sky, wider than the sky is the human soul.
This is from Victor Hugo's 'Les Misérables'.
Hugo's work depicts a bleak reality with grand momentum, but it's not the entirety he wants to convey to people. He doesn't just want to tell people how difficult it is to live in this world, Hugo really wants to say that the real misery is not suffering, but the inner self.
In other words, suffering in the face of a strong soul will become fragile.
Life isn't always so bad. We often feel life is difficult because our mindset hasn't been adjusted well, our hearts are too narrow.
To be a person, we need to be more open-minded, and a wider heart will lead to a wider road.
02
Taken from 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being'
A person can never know what they should want, because a person can only live once, neither can they compare it to the past, nor can they correct it in the future. There's no way to verify which choice is good.
If you are currently lost in a vortex of confusion, hesitant and unsure, take a moment to savor these words.
Some say that all choices in life are neither good nor bad.
The reason why we feel this way is because there's no way to verify whether a choice is good or bad.
However, I don't agree with this view. In my opinion, some choices are right and some are wrong. Some roads can't be taken, and some things can't be done. People must have a positive worldview, which is the most basic.
What I want to say is, the first step in making a choice is to choose a path, and the second step is to strive to walk that path well, don't easily question your choices, and don't give up easily.
Please believe that many of your choices and persistence are not wrong. If you work harder and persevere for a while, you will often be able to break out of the predicament and see the moon rise after the clouds clear.
03
Taken from 'The Trial'
Remember what you should remember, forget what you should forget. Change what can be changed, accept what cannot be changed.
The first time I read this, I was young and didn't have much insight, but now when I read it again, I feel different. It seems to be easier to understand.
If someone asks: How can we live a good life?
I think this is a great answer, condensing a great deal of wisdom in dealing with people.
As mentioned earlier, the human soul is wider than the sky.
So, how can a person's soul become broad?
It's about remembering what you should remember, forgetting what you should forget, accepting what cannot be changed. In short, it's about accepting what has already happened and learning to reconcile with suffering and reality.
Many people are tortured by life and become painful. The culprit is not necessarily the suffering of life itself, but rather ourselves – we haven't learned to let go, and we haven't learned to accept.
When the night is deep and silent, we should shed some of yesterday's baggage so that we can better welcome the new day.
04
Taken from 'Anna Karenina'
People live for hope, because with hope, people have the courage to live.
This is from Tolstoy's 'Anna Karenina' – perhaps you haven't read this masterpiece, but you must have heard similar words.
Here's a short story:
A man was taken away by a river, drifting downstream. There were no things to grab around him, and he thought, 'I'm doomed!'
When he had this thought, his body immediately lost strength, and he couldn't struggle anymore. His whole body began to slowly sink.
Suddenly, he remembered that there was a leaning old tree on the riverbank, its thick branches drooping over the water.
When he thought of this, his heart suddenly had hope, his strength returned, and he didn't feel so panicked. Finally, he mustered all his strength and swam to the base of the tree, where he was rescued.
This is the power of hope.
In life, the most terrifying thing is not the monsters or obstacles we encounter, nor the difficulties and dangers, but rather our loss of hope. Once we have this thought, we often find it very difficult to turn things around.
If you're in a difficult situation now, being bombarded and hammered by life, especially without a single complaint, you're often prone to lose your judgment and grab at anything that seems to save your life, and you refuse to let go.
This is very dangerous.
The more difficult the situation, the more important it is to remain clear-headed and calm. It's necessary to listen to other people's suggestions and views.
05
However, when we're listening, we must also retain our own judgment and not simply follow what others say. We must remember that the people who best understand ourselves are ourselves.
So, when you're tired, take a rest. When you're confused, slow down and think. This is very important.
Finally, I want to say that the world isn't perfect, but we shouldn't give up hope. In the rest of our lives, let's live well, walk a good path, and create a bright future.
