What are the differences between Pilates and Yoga? Do you know?

Yoga and Pilates concepts are often confused, I don't know these two differences.
At a glance, Pilates and yoga have many similarities. Pilates' basic exercise actions and yoga's posture practices both belong to posture exercises; both emphasize the coordination of posture and breathing; the exercise environment all requires quiet, barefoot practice, etc.

However, Pilates and yoga have fundamental differences. This is mainly reflected in the differences between Eastern and Western movement concepts.Originating from ancient India, yoga emphasizes achieving a state of harmony between body and nature through practices that unite mind and body. Whereas Pilates, originating from Germany, emphasizes the training of the body's muscles and functions, reflecting the fitness concepts of Westerners. Yoga's posture practices include many postures that imitate animal postures, and some squeezing and twisting actions are mainly aimed at the human internal organs; Pilates emphasizes muscle movement and breathing regulation, and its exercise goals focus on muscles.
From the perspective of exercise form,Pilates emphasizes continuous and fluent movements; yoga focuses on maintaining a certain breathing count after forming a posture.
From the perspective of exercise effect,Both Pilates and yoga are methods of holistic fitness. However, Pilates' exercise goals are focused on muscles, and its effect in shaping the body may be more direct.
Yoga, two familiar words, are now the most popular and fiery projects in various gyms and clubs. What makes yoga so beloved? Besides weight loss and shaping, yoga also has the function of self-cultivation, and people who have long practiced yoga will have a calm and relaxed heart when facing around them, unintentionally reducing pressure, making life easier, so busy white-collar women like to use yoga as a way to relax and relieve stress.
Pilates is a collection of yoga, dance and gymnastics physical training. Eastern people's movement like yoga and Tai Chi emphasizes breathing and mental concentration; Westerners' movement emphasizes muscle strength training. Pilates combines the two concepts, emphasizing 'body axis' – the strengthening of the abdomen and back – to achieve shaping purposes.
Yoga and Pilates have completely different breathing methods.
Yoga's breathing method is a special method called 'complete breathing'. It uses a breathing principle that simultaneously uses the abdomen, chest and shoulders, re-adjusting breathing to achieve 'breathing regulation' – a breathing practice method of 'regulating breathing'. The practice method of 'complete breathing' is different from the general breathing method, first exhaling, then inhaling, first emptying the lungs, the essence is the movement of the diaphragm, the abdomen gradually tightens inward, until there's a feeling of the belly almost touching the back; then, during inhalation, don't use force with the shoulders, keep the upper body relaxed, the overall feeling is 'down-full, up-empty'. If you use force with your shoulders, you will involuntarily exert force on your upper body, this method can allow fresh air (yoga calls it 'Prana – the energy of life') to be inhaled into the body according to the amount of carbon dioxide exhaled. During inhalation, the diaphragm relaxes and descends, the internal organs return to their original state, the fresh blood supplied by the heart is completely absorbed by the internal organs.
Pilates' breathing method is nose-in mouth-out, inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth, emphasizing the depth of exhalation, using the maximum abdominal breathing method; the speed of breathing should not be too fast, basically consistent with the speed of movement; do not hold your breath during exercise; during movement, pay attention to exhalation, and during rest, pay attention to inhalation. This can relieve the pressure given to the body because of muscle force; by controlling breathing, focus your attention on breathing, reduce sensitivity to muscle soreness.
