Dog Patrols and Protects Penguins, Foxes Would Run Away Upon Smelling It

Little Blue Penguins, a species of small penguins, are often eaten by other animals. Particularly cunning foxes, one bite is enough. A Little Blue Penguin on a small Australian island is often attacked by foxes, sometimes losing dozens of Little Blue Penguins in one night. The island is not big, and when there are many Little Blue Penguins on the island, there are as many as 800, but under the persecution of foxes, after repeated searches, only 4 were found. The Little Blue Penguins were once critically endangered, and the local residents had a clever idea: to let their sheepdogs protect the Little Blue Penguins.

Excellent sheepdogs, Oddball, successfully took office and became the first generation ofGuarding Sheepdogs. The owner said that Oddball had always taken good care of the sheepdogs at home and protected them from harm by other animals, and it would certainly do a good job when it turned into a penguin guardian. After introducing the sheepdog Oddball, everything on the island changed.

Oddball didn't have to fight foxes head-on, let alone the vast difference in body size. As soon as the foxes heard Oddball's bark, they would hide far away. Later, even when they smelled the scent of dogs nearby, they would immediately run to other places. Every day, people took Oddball around the island, driving away those invading foxes.

After transiting, Oddball was still excellent, but it was no longer suitable for work due to age. Over the years, Oddball worked diligently every day, which also caused a lot of damage to its joints. After Oddball retired, two other puppies, Tula and Eudy, continued to protect the Little Blue Penguins.

Oddball would sometimes watch beside, teaching them how to work. Seeing Oddball and the younger generation interact, it feels like a mother and her puppies, so heartwarming. The younger generation was also diligent like Oddball, and by 2017, the number of Little Blue Penguins had decreased to 182. The island residents felt it was a miracle brought by dogs.

Tula, who took over, also retired after 8 years. So everyone prepared a big cake for Tula to celebrate her glorious retirement. The following days, Eudy would take her turn to continue protecting the penguins. Now these sheepdogs generally patrol the island during the penguin breeding season, from October to March of the following year, to prevent penguin chicks from being harmed. Oddball's actual story was adapted into a movie, if you haven't seen it, you can go and watch this heartwarming dog movieOddball.

Smart sheepdogs really seem to be able to handle any job.
