London Subway Station Rats ‘Fight’ for Bread, Photo Wins Wildlife Photographer Award

According to the British ‘Mirror’ reported on February 12th, the recent list of winners for the 2019 Wildlife Photographer Awards – People’s Choice Award in the UK has been announced. One of the winning works, titled ‘Station Argument’, caught the eye.

The report states that late at night in a deserted London Underground station, the photographer, Sam Rowley, patiently waited for these rodents to make a noisy appearance in order to capture this moment of their brawl.
When two rats lunged at each other twice to snatch crumbs dropped by passengers, Sam quickly snapped the moment of their feeding fight.

According to the organizers of the competition, Sam found the best way to shoot rats in London Underground is to lie on the platform waiting.
However, unfortunately, perhaps because of the abundance of food, after one rat snatched the crumbs, the feeding battle of the two rats only lasted less than a second before they parted ways, luckily Sam had already captured their outlines.
Sam said: ‘I’m very happy to win this photography award, it’s my lifelong dream to win in the competition, and this entry work was shot in my hometown daily life. I hope it can show people the unexpected dramatic moments found in the most familiar urban environment.’
It is reported that this year a total of 48,000 animal photography works participated in the competition, and only 25 works were shortlisted for the award list. These 25 winning works will be exhibited in the Natural History Museum until May 31st.

One of the shortlisted works is Michel Zoghzoghi’s ‘Couple Suit’, the American tiger and its cubs hugging a python with similar spotted skin.
There are three other shortlisted works: Forester Elias Mugambi and a solitary black rhino named Kitui, a chimpanzee named ‘Lost Match’ wearing a boxing suit in the ‘Mekong Wild Animal Park’, and a white Arctic reindeer disguised in the snow in the Svalbard Islands of Norway.

If you are good at capturing unique and eye-catching moments in daily life, you might also become a good photographer.
