Critically Endangered Crane-Beaked Storks Appear in Yunnan's Longling
Recently, a group of large birds appeared in the Maiwao Ecological Wetland in Longling, Yunnan. Experts confirmed that these 10-odd birds are called Crane-beaked Storks, a critically endangered species. This is the first time this species has been discovered in Longling, Yunnan.



It is reported that Crane-beaked Storks are mid-sized storks that frequently inhabit swampy areas, paddy fields, and lakeshores with abundant food, with a large appetite, primarily feeding on invertebrates and aquatic animals such as amphibians, small fish, shrimp, frogs, etc.

Located at the foot of the Nujiang River, the Maiwao Ecological Wetland in Longling has a total area of more than 1,000 acres. Currently, the number of wild bird species in the wetland and its surrounding areas has reached dozens. In recent years, the local area has actively carried out joint patrols and public education, and has strengthened the protection of wildlife habitats, and the ecological environment is becoming increasingly good, and the populations and numbers of various birds have also increased compared to before.
