Giraffe's Neck Brace (Tire) Causes Injury and Risk of Infection, Public Removes 'Necklace'
Giraffes are the tallest land animals, and their long, slender necks have always been admired by humans. However, such a long neck also causes them some inconvenience. For example, when putting clothing around their necks.

This giraffe lived in a national park in Kenya and was found with a heavy tire wrapped around its neck. Staff said the tire had likely been around its neck for a long time, as there were already scars on its neck hair. If not treated, the giraffe could risk infection, so staff decided to remove the ‘necklace’.

Giraffes are among the most difficult wild animals to anesthetize, and it's hard to control the dosage of the drugs. If the dose is too small, the giraffe may wake up during treatment and cause trouble, and if it's too large, it could harm the giraffe. Therefore, a group of staff carefully anesthetized the giraffe, and after the giraffe fell to the ground, staff cut open and removed the tire. After that, they disinfected the giraffe's wound.
The relieved giraffe woke up and became very cheerful. According to staff who participated in the operation, they had dealt with many cases of giraffes having tires wrapped around their necks. This incident was basically not a trap, but rather caused by tires being discarded carelessly, which was mistakenly worn around the giraffe's neck.
