First Discovery! Large Groups of Endangered Guàn-billed Storks Arrive in Danshan Mountain, Xuyong
In the tenth day, citizens of Xuyong discovered a bird species in the Danshan Scenic Area, which has beautiful wings and a very special mouth, like a large pliers; in recent days, they have all lived in Danshan Mountain, becoming a beautiful landscape of the scenic area.

Received a report from the masses, staff of the forestry and wildlife protection agency of Xuyong County went to identify. From the appearance, it was basically confirmed that this bird species is Guàn (guàn) – the Guàn-billed Stork. The discovery of Guàn-billed Stork in Danshan Scenic Area is the first time in Xuyong County.

The Guàn-billed Stork is a bird of the stork family, mainly lives in Southeast Asian countries such as Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, India, etc. It was listed in the 'World Wildlife Fund' Red List of Endangered Species in 2013; it was first recorded in China's Yunnan Eryuan West Lake in October 3, 2006.

The Guàn-billed Stork inhabits tropical wetlands, with habitats including rice fields, shallow beaches, river mouths, freshwater and brackish lakes. Rice fields are often agricultural areas and rice paddies. These wetlands have an average altitude of 385-1100 meters and a depth of 10-50 centimeters. The Guàn-billed Stork is a wading bird, so it needs relatively humid and rain-abundant feeding grounds.

The staff said that in recent years, Xuyong County has increased its efforts to protect forest resources, and the ecological environment is constantly improving, providing better living conditions for wild animals and birds. It is precisely because of the improvement of the ecological environment that this group of lovely little buddies have come.
