Couple Leopards and Mother-Cub Leopards Frequently ‘Appear’ in Jiyuan, Henan
CCTV News:Recently, the Linyi Forest Bureau of Jiyuan City's Pilot Area for Urban-Rural Integration in Henan Province released the biodiversity monitoring results of the Taihang Mountains National Nature Reserve. During the period from late 2019 to February 2020, infrared cameras photographed images of wild Chinese leopards 42 times, with a 'high filming rate.'

These filming leopards were majestic, either roaming through the forest or pacing freely on their territory.

Staff members introduced that since the wild animal red-eye camera monitoring was launched in January 2015, the 'filming rate' of the Chinese leopards has been continuously rising, and the number has been increasing year by year, indicating that the distribution range of Chinese leopards in the Jiyuan Taihang Mountains has significantly recovered. Currently, staff have identified no less than 6 individuals of Chinese leopards through images, and they have also filmed 'couple leopards' and 'mother-cub leopards,' which shows that the Chinese leopard population structure is reasonable.
The responsible person of the Huanglian Tree Forest Area in Jiyuan City's Yugong Forest Farm, Zhang Guo, said:It is clearly visible in the monitoring videos that Chinese leopards frequently roam in the mountains, east to west, up and down, and their activity is good. Furthermore, their fur is very beautiful, indicating that their food is abundant and they are in excellent condition. In addition, other wild animals such as the Chinese muntjac, the yellow-throated ferret, and the wild boar were also found in other monitoring videos, some appearing in groups. This shows that a complete food chain population has formed in our mountains.
According to reports, the Chinese leopard was once widely distributed in the Chinese leopards in North China, Henan and Hebei provinces, and many regions have now disappeared due to habitat destruction. In the future, Jiyuan will increase the intensity of wildlife management, so that Chinese leopards can thrive and prosper in the Taihang Mountains.
The responsible person of the Huanglian Tree Forest Area in Jiyuan City's Yugong Forest Farm, Zhang Guo:The appearance of Chinese leopards in multiple sampling areas in Jiyuan represents a close exchange between the Chinese leopard population in Jiyuan and the Chinese leopard population in other regions of the Taihang Mountains, and it indicates that the Chinese leopard population is constantly recovering and developing healthily.
