Critically Endangered Clamp-billed Stork Visits Big Tang Village in Honghe Province
Recently, in the fields and ditches of Big Tang and Xiaheba River Valley in Shijing County, Honghe Province, more than 100 wild migrating birds – the Clamp-billed Stork – have appeared. They leisurely played and foraged, creating a harmonious and beautiful rural landscape.

Clamp-billed Storks belong to the order Gruiformes and the stork family. When their wings are fully extended, they measure about 80 centimeters. They mainly live in Southeast Asia. In 2013, the Clamp-billed Stork was listed in the 'Red List of Threatened Species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature' as a key protected wild animal.
Clamp-billed Storks mainly feed on fish, shrimp, crabs, and shellfish. The ecological environment in Big Tang and Xiaheba River Valley in Shijing County is good, with abundant rivers and rice terraces and fish and shrimp, providing the Clamp-billed Stork with sufficient food.

Tall Hope Trees provide the Clamp-billed Stork with good nesting sites.

After discovering the Clamp-billed Stork, the Big Tang Village Committee actively publicized relevant wildlife protection laws and regulations to the masses, providing a safe living environment for the Clamp-billed Stork.
