World's Critically Endangered Blue-headed Ducks Land in Tai'er
Black Dragon River

Since March, Heilongjiang Province has entered the bird migration season. Recently, at the Taihu National Wetland Park located in the east suburbs of Tai'er County, Haili, Heilongjiang, people discovered more than 30 critically endangered black-headed ducks swimming and playing in the water. According to reports, this black-headed duck is one of the few remaining less than 1000 globally. In the online 'Heilongjiang Natural Education Classroom' launched on March 24th, the 'Migration of Birds' course took advantage of this bird's return to interpret bird knowledge, focus on bird resources, and call for bird protection and love.
Heilongjiang has abundant forest resources and vast wetland resources, known as 'the Earth's kidneys', making it an ideal habitat for migratory birds. In recent years, the bird population and numbers have increased year on year. Taihu National Wetland Park is a 4A-level tourist scenic area and a national water conservation scenic area. It is home to flocks of geese, white spoonbills, white egrets, gray herons, and oriental white storks every year. According to wetland monitoring personnel and photographers, black-headed ducks have been residing in Taihu wetlands since 2015, and their numbers have been increasing year on year.
