Winter turns to Spring, these birds are setting off...
In recent years, every winter, thousands of Ross's gulls have been foraging and playing around the banks of the Hanjiang River and its two shores, forming a characteristic landscape of Hanchuan.

Ross's gulls, commonly known as 'water pigeons', come from Northwest Siberia and generally live in rivers, lakes, reservoirs, bays. They travel from Lake Baikal through Russia and Northern China to Hanchuan for the winter. They arrive in Hanchuan around November each year, and return collectively in March the following year. A large number of Ross's gulls have departed Hanchuan earlier this year, and some Ross's gulls may embark on their return journey to Siberia within the coming days. Hanchuan citizens know that the Ross's gulls are leaving, and they are reluctant to part with them.

Ross's gulls have become 'honorary citizens' of Hanchuan, adding a touch of 'dynamic beauty' to the 'static' Hanchuan, and also sketching a moving picture of harmony between humans and nature for the beautiful city of Hanchuan.
