Dog Common Diseases and Diagnosis (Part 1)

This dog is indeed less troublesome to raise than cats, and generally dogs don't get sick very often.

But this doesn't mean they don't get sick, there are still some common diseases in dogs.

These dogs are prone to diseases, which should attract the attention of dog owners!

Rabies

A highly contagious acute disease caused by a filterable virus, which is commonly found in human and animal populations. It has a death rate of almost 100% and currently has no known cure. Vaccination against rabies is the only effective preventive measure.

Currently, two types of vaccines for rabies prevention are produced in China: Rabies Weak-Strain Cell Freeze-Dried Vaccine and Rabies Vaccine. The Rabies Weak-Strain Cell Freeze-Dried Vaccine, after dilution with sterile water, should be injected subcutaneously into dogs of all sizes, with an immunity period of 1 year. The Rabies Vaccine, for dogs weighing less than 4 kilograms, 3 milliliters should be injected each time, with an immunity period of 6 months. For dogs weighing more than 4 kilograms, 5 milliliters should be injected each time, with an immunity period of 6 months.

In addition, vaccination with Five-in-One Vaccine or Six-in-One Vaccine is a good way to prevent rabies and other diseases. After vaccination, there are no obvious adverse reactions, but they should be injected according to the instructions.

Pseudo-Rabies

A contagious disease caused by various viruses commonly found in domestic and wild animals and animals. Pigs are prone to infection, and dogs are also infected.

Dogs infected with Pseudo-Rabies consume infected beef, pork, or rodent meat, or are infected through wounds. The mortality rate of infected dogs is high, but they do not excrete the virus.

In the early stages of the disease, the dog shows staring, depression, scratching the wound, red and swollen around the wound, the dog whimpers, refuses to eat, vomits, bites at foreign objects, paralysis of the throat, excessive salivation, and eventually dies with symptoms similar to rabies.

This disease is mainly preventive: dogs should not enter pigpens, and injecting Pseudo-Rabies Weak-Strain Vaccine into puppies over 4 months old is the main preventive method.

Canine Parvovirus

In recent years, several canine infectious diseases have been discovered, primarily caused by viral infections of animal feces, urine, and saliva, mainly endangering puppies.

Puppies infected with Canine Parvovirus are listless, have a fever, refuse to eat, vomit, diarrhea, excrete thin, watery and tomato juice-like foul-smelling feces, and eventually die from dehydration. Cardiac-type dogs have mild diarrhea and often die suddenly from respiratory distress.

This disease is often misdiagnosed as parvovirus, dysentery, pneumonia, etc. The mortality rate of infected dogs is 10%—50%. Injecting Antidote No. 1 has a good therapeutic effect on this disease. Vaccinating puppies with Canine Parvovirus or Five-in-One Vaccine is the main preventive method.

Canine Distemper

A highly contagious acute disease caused by viruses, primarily endangering puppies aged 3-12 months.

Puppies infected with Canine Distemper have a reduced appetite, vomiting, lethargy, chills, cough, high fever, foul-smelling or blood-streaked feces, fear of light, runny nose or pus-like nasal discharge, and develop bronchial inflammation or pneumonia; the body spasms, screams and runs wildly, spits out saliva or collapses and convulses, the disease is either short or long, and the patient often has a long-term loss of function in the hind limbs, and some die within a few months.

This disease often occurs in the cold season from 10 to 4 months, and the mortality rate is high. Treatment can include intravenous fluids and vitamin B and vitamin C supplementation, antibiotic prevention of infection, and oral medications for liver protection. Vaccinating puppies with Five-in-One Vaccine is the main preventive method.

Infectious Hepatitis

A highly contagious acute purulent infectious disease caused by canine hepatitis virus, primarily endangering puppies under 1 year old.

In the early stages of the disease, the body temperature rises to 41°C, accompanied by fatigue, increased drinking, diarrhea, blood in the stool, fear of light, back arching, etc.

The mortality rate of puppies is high, and adults can recover. Treatment includes intravenous fluids and vitamin B and vitamin C treatment, antibiotic prevention of infection, and oral medications for liver protection.

Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis has three types: human type, bovine type, and avian type. Canine tuberculosis is caused by human or bovine tuberculosis bacteria. Young dogs are prone to infection, and humans are also threatened.
