China Statistics 32 Species of Herons (Grey Heron Family, Grey Heron Genus)
Alcedo, the genus of paradise-flycatchers, exhibits blue-black coloration from the forehead to the nape, densely mottled with emerald-blue markings; its back is brilliant turquoise blue, and its abdomen is chestnut brown; it has light markings on the crown; its beak and feet are all scarlet red. When viewed from a distance, it resembles a woodpecker. Because of its brilliant turquoise back and facial feathers, it is commonly known as the paradise-flycatcher. It is the collective name for birds of the paradise-flycatcher family. There are a total of 32 species in China. This family of birds primarily feeds on fish and shrimp.
