A Cruel Scene of Nature: Two Lions Licked and Ultimately Killed a Young Antelope

Recently, a shocking video captured a scene of two lions using their paws to harass and lick a young antelope for as long as 20 minutes, ultimately resulting in the death of the antelope, revealing the cruelty of nature.

British ‘Daily Mail’ reported on February 21st that photographer Lee-Anne Robinson captured the scene in Addo Elephant Park, Eastern Cape, South Africa. The helpless young antelope was caught by the lions.

In the video, the lions initially chased the antelope and lightly patted its hind legs with their huge paws. The camera then switched to footage of the male and female lions pouncing on the antelope.

The female lion opened her mouth and bit into the antelope, but did not fully bite down, instead gently licking it.

The male lion then used one paw to lightly tap the antelope’s ears and stroked the terrified young antelope’s head. The desperate young antelope bleated for help, but it was of no use. The young antelope tried to escape again, and was eventually bitten to death by the predator.

Photographer Robinson, 50, said that she believes the lions were hoping for the antelope’s mother to react to its cries during the 20-minute ordeal, so that they could continue to trap it.

Robinson said, ‘I realized this would be a killing, so I picked up my camera to start filming... The young offspring tried to escape several times, but the lions would pounce on it, lick it, and scratch it, but didn’t kill it, this lasted about 20 minutes.’

Robinson continued, ‘I was very sad to see this, because I was sad for the young antelope. As a wildlife photographer, I realize that this is the rule of the jungle.’
