Rare Water Bird ‘Red-Legged Lady’ Appears in Yingcheng
On April 6th, a rare water bird was discovered in Shilin Park, Pingdingshan, with its most prominent physical feature being two bright red and slender legs, standing gracefully in the water; and extending its legs straight and slightly drooping when flying. After verification, this bird is one of the protagonists of the familiar 'Dunny and the Whelk,' known as the Black-winged Long-legged Sandpiper, or 'Red-Legged Lady.' Its legs are long and slender, its movements are light and agile, and it forages in the water like a ballet dancer, and people call it a bird 'ballet dancer.' 'Red-Legged Lady' is a bird of the Dunny and the Whelk family, Long-legged Sandpiper. The body length is about 37 cm. The characteristic features are a long, black beak, black wings, long red legs, and white plumage. The neck has black mottled spots. It resides in open plains, grasslands, and lakes, shallow ponds, and marshlands.
