Lion Couple's 12 Years of Love! Male Lion Passes Away 10 Days After Death, Female Lion Goes to Heaven with Husband

The love arose without a cause, unstoppable once it began. One can die while alive, and one can be reborn from death. When we lived, we coexisted for love. Now that you've gone, I cannot endure. When I find you, let us be reborn for love. Such beautiful love can also happen between a pair of lion couples.

The lion couple, Zanda and Isis, were sent to Brookfield Zoo in 2008 and immediately fell deeply in love upon their first meeting, living together shortly thereafter. Throughout the years, this lion couple has been incredibly loving, always inseparable. They frequently give a 'lion feed' to the keepers and visitors, sometimes grooming each other, at other times cuddling together to sleep, even during sleep, Zanda would gently rest her paw on her wife's body.
However, in December 2019, Zanda suddenly fell ill with a severe disease. Due to the pain, she could hardly walk or stand, moving very slowly. The zoo treated her and gave her pain medication to alleviate the pain. However, on January 2nd, her condition suddenly deteriorated rapidly. Zanda was very old, and her spine had several severe degenerations, making surgery impossible. The zoo could only reluctantly choose to euthanize Zanda.

On January 13th, Isis, heartbroken after losing her husband, was found lying motionless on the ground. After a veterinary examination, it was inferred that she had fallen from a height and become paralyzed. Although Isis eagerly sought treatment, the injury was too severe, and unfortunately, her brain suffered serious damage. The zoo also reluctantly euthanized her to reduce her suffering.

The zoo's staff said that lioness Isis's condition had always been excellent. She suddenly fell from a height, likely due to the shock of her husband Zanda's death. The staff also stated that since her 12-year companion had left, lioness Isis had become very irritable and restless. Sometimes she would roar frequently, calling for her husband and hoping Zanda would appear before her.
However, after several days of calling, she realized her husband would not return, and she began to seek comfort from the keepers. Perhaps it was due to excessive grief that lioness Isis became so physically and mentally exhausted. When she walked on high places, because her mind was distracted, she ignored the surrounding environment, leading to her falling and injuring herself.
