Want to Go to Wugong Mountain? Consider Donghai Mountain in Huizhou, Guangdong, Popular with Outdoor Enthusiasts in Shenzhen and Huizhou
Jiangxi's Wugong Mountain was suddenly pushed into the spotlight by netizens last year, with cloud seas and alpine meadows being its main attractions. Instead of calling it a 'tourist trap,' I'd rather call it a suitable hiking destination for beginners (after all, the scenic area has already established cable cars and other facilities).
During peak season, Wugong Mountain is truly crowded with tents and people. Many people mistakenly believe they can easily see the beautiful scenery, unaware that they still have to walk a long distance on foot to reach the summit, which frustrates them greatly.
Wugong Mountain's beautiful scenery has attracted many people to visit, but if you're in Guangdong and want to go, the journey is quite far. If you enjoy outdoor hiking and want to admire alpine meadows, I suggest you get to know Donghai Mountain, which is known as 'the outdoor enthusiast's garden.'
Note: This doesn't mean ordinary tourists can't come; it's just that it's still a relatively undeveloped area, not ideal for leisurely vacations.
Donghai Mountain is one of the most popular destinations for outdoor hikers in southern China, with five main peaks, the highest reaching an altitude of 1290 meters. From the summit, you can see endless meadows, and the meadows are golden in winter (because Guangdong's plants turn golden-brown later than other areas, so they remain golden in winter). The entire mountain traverse route is 27 kilometers, with the best route about 10 kilometers long. There are no small shops on the mountain to provide supplies, so you need to bring enough water and food for a full day's hike.
Because of its proximity to the coast, Donghai Mountain lacks tall trees typical of inland areas; instead, you'll find pine and fir trees at the foot of the mountain. As you climb higher, you'll find fewer trees and more vegetation.
If the weather is good, you can also see Donghai Mountain's cloud sea landscape. If you're really expecting to see cloud seas, bring a tent and camp out for a night; the sunrise and sunset at Donghai Mountain are also spectacular. The camping spots suitable for watching the sunrise and sunset are mainly in the swamp A9 area.
The mountain climb may make you feel very tired and laborious, but don't give up easily! When you reach the summit and look back on the path you've walked, you'll realize the hardship was worth it.
Since it's a relatively undeveloped area, if you plan to go hiking, I suggest joining a local group, as it's safer than getting lost. Although many outdoor hiking enthusiasts form groups to climb every weekend, having a team makes things much easier.
