Kansai Airport Overnight Guide: A Guide for Those Taking Night Flights

When you're stuck with a late arrival at Kansai Airport – whether it's because the last train to the city has already departed, or because a taxi to Namba is prohibitively expensive – and you're facing a dilemma, have you ever considered spending the night at the airport? There are actually many ways to handle those few hours. Let me break it down for you.

Most comfortable

Without a doubt, the option is to stay at a hotel inside the airport.

Kansai Airport Japan Hotel is the only hotel inside the airport. It's a 3-4 minute walk from either Terminal 1 or the Airport Train Station. Whether you're arriving late at night or departing in the morning, you can enjoy a comfortable night's stay here.

Disadvantage: High price, around 1000 yen per night, it might even cost more than your ticket.

Most innovative

The capsule hotel concept has been around for a while, but seeing it applied on a large scale in the market really depends on Japan. And now, there's a capsule hotel inside Kansai Airport, located on the 3rd floor, called 'First Cabin'.

It's mostly 2-3 square meter single rooms, with a few double rooms of 4-5 square meters as well. Although it seems small, you can actually find a place to put your luggage and small bags, and the public restrooms and bathrooms are definitely clean and well-maintained.

Best value for money

For most young people, the KIX Airport Lounge on the 2nd floor of Terminal 1 is the most suitable option for spending the night.

You can sit, lie down, rest, and even play your computer, with free drinks, books, and newspapers. The public space is very quiet, and no one will disturb you, you might not even need earplugs. For just around 170 yen, you can enjoy this environment for 6 hours.

Disadvantage: Unbookable, finding a comfortable seat sometimes depends on luck.

Zero cost

Of course, there are many benches inside the terminal, and you can borrow blankets from convenience stores. The relatively constant temperature inside the airport ensures you won't feel cold or hot. If you really want to save money, you can consider this.

Disadvantage: No need to say much...

Closed JR station

There's a counter to collect the KIX Card, which is open 24 hours in T2.

If you land in T2, you can take a free bus to T1 again.

TIPS: It's recommended to apply for a KIX Card online in advance, completely free, just fill out the form and collect it at the airport after landing. You can accumulate points in most places inside the airport with this card, and many shops can also offer discounts, such as the KIX Airport Lounge, which I won't tell you about – it's usually for special people only!
