One Way North ▏Yangzhou • Let’s Have Yangzhou Fried Rice
2019.10.08 - 2019.10.20
(Below is written only to represent what the person has experienced)
Weather conditions:
Traveling north from Guangzhou with a temperature of around 30 degrees Celsius, the route was mostly cloudy with occasional rain and sunshine, with a maximum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of around 8 degrees Celsius
Route location:
Guangzhou - Suzhou - Yangzhou - Nanjing - Qingdao - Jinan - Tianjin - Beijing
The detailed route can be seen in the following diagram
• Yangzhou • Let's have a Yangzhou fried rice
Let's explain the route to Yangzhou
Day 1: Garden of Lingering Fragrance - Wang Shi Yuan - East Gate Street
Day 2: Shuosixi Lake - Yangzhou University Shuosixi Lake Campus
Other Yangzhou fried rice is only one kind, while Yangzhou's may not be called Yangzhou fried rice, and there are multiple kinds, some are called Golden Fried Rice, and it was discovered that spring noodles are even more amazing than fried rice. The scenery is not as good as Suzhou, but the food is more elaborate than Suzhou
Garden of Lingering Fragrance
The Garden of Lingering Fragrance is also a former residence of old salt merchants. Before entering the gate, you can see the large characters 'National AAAA-level scenic area'. It is one of the main parks
As the closest city to Suzhou, many buildings in Yangzhou are similar to those in Suzhou, and should often be compared. The Garden of Lingering Fragrance is compared to Suzhou's (Zhuozheng Garden)
(Zhuozheng Garden) is a national 5A scenic area and has been included in the World Heritage List, so this comparison is self-evident
For someone who is not familiar with architecture, they may find that the layout and overall scale of the Garden of Lingering Fragrance is better than the Garden of Lingering Fragrance
According to the introduction, the Garden of Lingering Fragrance has four different seasons in each area, and the spring and autumn can be seen, but the summer and winter are not obvious, probably because I still lack imagination
Looking back now, Yangzhou's courtyards and Suzhou's are slightly different: Yangzhou has more bamboo
You can see a bamboo-decorated area in the Garden of Lingering Fragrance, while bamboo is relatively rare in Suzhou gardens. I only found out through Souhu.com that there are 111 kinds of bamboo in Yangzhou, and there is also an exhibition area about bamboo in the Garden of Lingering Fragrance, which talks about the history of bamboo and the Bamboo Society, if you are interested in delving deeper, you can consult relevant materials
Wang Shi Yuan
Wang Shi Yuan is not far from the Garden of Lingering Fragrance and East Gate Street. When researching (guide), I saw that it was a paper-cutting museum, but when I arrived, I found that it was actually an old-fashioned traditional residential building, which is not very worth seeing, the courtyard is small, and there is nothing special, just a normal courtyard with little historical significance
East Gate Street
This is a retro pedestrian street, similar to Guangzhou's Shangxiajiayuan. You can stroll around in the evening, with restaurants, drinks, specialty stores and clothing stores
Talking about food, there is a phenomenon on this street that some shops are deserted, as long as there are a few people, but some shops are in line. This really shows that when the internet is developed, various food apps will list stores, so it is a good choice for current internet-age users, a slightly worse shop may not have anyone
I don't necessarily go to shops based on online reviews, because I've tried many internet-famous shops, which have been disappointing. A slightly unremarkable shop may have good food, so I would say, 'wise men see wise men and wise men see different things'
Shuosixi Lake
I believe that friends who have been following my (friend circle) may have noticed my comments about Shuosixi Lake: 100 yuan is not worth it
Why is that? It's just my personal opinion
First, the weather accounted for a large part of the reasons
That day we set off at around 9 am. When we left, it was indeed cloudy, including in Suzhou, it was cloudy all day, so the photos are not very good, of course, technical issues also affect the situation, haha
Second, it's the comparison
The West Lake in Hangzhou is an open park, both in terms of area and reputation, it is relatively better than Shuosixi Lake
Finally, it's about the price. Because there's West Lake in Hangzhou to compare, it's definitely felt that it's expensive here, and there's nothing particularly amazing inside, so I thought this way
However, Shuosixi Lake is still good
Big Buddha Temple
The Big Buddha Temple is just passing by the entrance, so I won't comment on it
In Yangzhou, compared to my feeling, the food is better than Suzhou, the scenery is worse than Suzhou and Hangzhou, and the prices are not reasonable
However, fried rice and noodles are definitely recommended, the portion is big, so if you have the opportunity, you should try it
