Chinese Tourists Visit Malaysia and Are Stunned to See Chinese Characters Everywhere: Did I Travel Abroad?
This is Liu Xiao Shun's Travel and Life Institute.

Currently, with China's rapid economic development and rising incomes, more and more Chinese people enjoy traveling abroad during their leisure time. When it comes to the most favorite countries for Chinese tourists, many people will probably think of 'Malaysia and Thailand' – namely Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand in Southeast Asia.

Malaysia is arguably the most culturally diverse country in Southeast Asia. It's primarily composed of Malays, Chinese, and Indians, accounting for over 6 million of Malaysia's 30 million total population, with the Chinese population exceeding 6 million, making them a vital component of Malaysia.

Therefore, when you visit Malaysia, you'll see Chinese people everywhere, such as well-known singers like Liang Jing Ru, Guang Liang, Cao Ge, and A Nu – all of whom are Malaysian Chinese. You'll also notice that Malaysian Chinese are very similar to mainland Chinese, with little cultural barrier.
This is supposedly because Malaysian Chinese haven't been as assimilated by local cultures as Chinese in other countries, and they still maintain their Chinese traditions, even embracing modern trends. In Malaysia, you might even find Malaysian Chinese using simplified Chinese characters, unlike Chinese in other countries who often use traditional characters.

Furthermore, Malaysian Chinese can speak fluent Mandarin in addition to having a Southern accent. Their websites, TV shows, and celebrities are similar to those in mainland China, and Chinese characters are everywhere. It's no wonder many Chinese tourists visiting Malaysia often suspect they haven't truly traveled abroad.

Have you ever been to Malaysia? What are your impressions of Malaysia? Do you think Malaysian Chinese are the most similar overseas Chinese population? If you have the opportunity in the future, where would you like to travel to Malaysia? Welcome everyone to leave a comment!
