Exploring the Small Hills of Beijing: Unraveling the Origin of the City Wall and Steps – A Puzzling Mystery!
Hello everyone, I'm Xiao Doubao's Mom. Today I'm back to recommend a great place for hiking – it's the several small hills east of Beijing's Changping Maternal and Child Health Hospital.
Why is it called 'Xiao Nian Shan' (Small Hills)? Because the scenery on the mountain isn't particularly prominent, and it hasn't been developed much. The mountains are mostly original earth roads. It can also be said that it's actually a cluster of small hills and peaks combined to form a ridge. However, it's said that from Changping Maternal and Child Health Hospital's southeast side, climbing to the northern side of the ridge leads to the small south mountain of the Thirteen Ling Reservoir. That way, you can enjoy the Thirteen Ling Reservoir's beautiful spring scenery without any obstructions. Regarding climbing to the Small South Mountain and admiring the beauty of the Thirteen Ling Reservoir, I recently wrote an article about it. If you're interested, you can follow 'Xiao Doubao Loves Travel' to see more fun places I share.
Although it's a small hill, unlike the imposing majesty of a big mountain. It's also a landscape of lush mountains and hills, with mountains and hills continuously extending into the distance.
Beijing in March and April is a perfect time for hiking and enjoying the spring. Blue skies, white clouds, and greenery starting to decorate the hills, filling the mountains with vitality.
Whether you're going with a few friends or your whole family, hiking can exercise your body and relax your mind, forgetting your worries.
That area is very close, located not far from Changping County's north, it's easily accessible by bus or car. You can locate it by searching for 'Changping Maternal and Child Health Hospital'.
Introduction ends here. Now let's go hiking! Father and son started a competition to climb the mountain, the destination is the first slightly larger hill.

Look! Xiao Bao has already overtaken his dad! Kids' stamina is amazing! Wow! Almost at the top, the sky is clear and blue, the clouds are like giant cotton candy, it seems like you can reach out and grab one!
Still not craving the taste of cotton candy, let's keep climbing. As expected, Xiao Bao was the first to reach the top. Under the blue sky and white clouds, the scenery of the mountains is clear. Although not covered in lush trees, it's still connected and visually pleasing.

Take a short break and continue climbing to the second bigger hill!

Look ahead at the other hills, considering for a while and deciding to end this climb early. The small south mountain of the north side hasn't been explored yet, we'll come back to explore its beauty later.
Can you see the Thirteen Ling Reservoir in the distance? The Thirteen Ling Reservoir is surrounded by continuous hills!

We chose to descend from the west side, the scenery on the west side is also very charming. Look at this earthen city wall under the blue sky and white clouds, doesn't it have a retro feel? I love Beijing's spring like this. But what's this earthen city wall? Why is it on such a small hill? It's a mystery!

Descending now! Hey, there's another step here? When was this built? Who built it? It's impossible to find out, and there's no one around to ask.
Finally descending! How lucky, there's a coconut seller there. Let's buy a coconut to quench our thirst, the cool coconut juice suddenly revitalizes our spirits.

The photos above were taken in March 2019 when hiking. If you want to go hiking nearby, choose a sunny day and experience the ever-changing Beijing sky with these small hills. Big mountains and small hills have their own charm.
