Recommended: Self-Driving Tours Around Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Dongguan - Discover the Beautiful Outdoor Camping Spot ‘Dao Gu Tian Cun’

If judged solely by style, I seem to be more inclined towards outdoor activities than my husband. He's far more enthusiastic about the outdoors – at least ten times so. This article is a transcript of Yan Ma's travelogue written in September 2018.

In our home, long before our daughter was two, my husband successively acquired tents, sleeping bags, rocking chairs, moisture-proof mats, fishing gear, and more, all kept in the car. He frequently follows outdoor camping posts, eager to try climbing, swimming, and more.

I, on the other hand, often intervene, using my children as an excuse to dissuade him from potentially risky ideas. I should be a person who packs a bag and wanders the world when driven by passion, but the timing simply wasn't right.

During the long summer vacation, I developed severe eczema on my legs, largely wasted due to this. It wasn't until yesterday afternoon when my husband repeatedly mentioned it that I suddenly had the idea to agree to go camping in Dao Gu Tian Cun (). It seems this venture is unstoppable! My husband plans to acquire more equipment upon his return. Of course, I'm quite open to him enjoying his hobbies.

Equipment needs to be sufficient; the roads can't be too long, and the scenery can't be exhausted…

Dao Gu Tian Cun is approximately 60 kilometers from Hui Cheng (). We departed from Hui Cheng at 3 pm.

After exiting the highway at Boluo Yuanzhou (), we drove approximately ten kilometers on village roads and then continued for nearly thirty kilometers along mountain roads, constantly turning corners. The scenery along the way was beautiful, passing by the distant silhouette of the Yun He Water Reservoir (), which was stunning.

We arrived at the campsite just before sunset, around 5 pm, parked the car, and easily set up our tent, heading straight to the stream with our swimsuits on.

The stream was already full of people enjoying the water, and we didn't return to shore until the moon was thick. At 8 pm, we chatted with the fellow campers, built a campfire, ate dry food, and watched the moon set over the mountains while the stream murmured. The scene felt timeless, as if there was no concept of time.

A tent covered in dew

Dao Gu Tian Cun is definitely a good camping spot, at least it was before.

It boasts natural, ancient, and rustic scenery, with clear, translucent streams and unique rocks and rapids, inheriting the beauty of the Lu Fu Shan () mountain range. Besides camping, you can also go rafting, swimming, and play in the water – it's all great!

However, due to a lack of effective management, many tourists carelessly leave their trash behind, and the residual trash is truly distressing.

Some friends have suggested that when I write my travelogue, I should try not to reveal the exact names of places that haven't been widely recognized, especially hidden and remote locations, to avoid excessive consumption of their unique appeal. This is something to consider.

Thinking back to last year's trip of over 400 kilometers, driving from Huizhou to Lian Nan () to find original villages, it seems rather extravagant. Huizhou has so many undiscovered beauties; if you're willing to take a step and look for them, you'll surely find countless surprises!
