New Hotel | IHG Stake, Club Med Founder Backs New Hotel Bringing a Unique Establishment to Luxembourg's 'Grand Duchy'

Mama Shelter hotel will have 145 guest rooms located in the Grund district of Luxembourg, near the Museum of Modern Art.
This hotel is unlike the old-fashioned, traditional hotel brands, full of youthful energy and imaginative details, such as the ceiling covered in graffiti, and the carpets printed with money patterns. Yes, it's a truly independent hotel.
The original hotel lobby would have been a formal reception area, but Mama Shelter is used as a restaurant with a large table, aiming to share more with others. Mama Shelter also has a distinctive feature of utilizing the rooftop. When in Luxembourg, the 1150 square meter restaurant will be open as a restaurant, bar and playground.
Luxembourg's Mama Shelter will also cross-border collaborate with co-working space Mama Works, providing convenient workspaces for travelers and locals alike. Whether one can settle down to work in such a trendy hotel, however, remains to be seen after the hotel opens.
The hotel's name seems somewhat bizarre, as if it was a name the founder came up with unintentionally. But in fact, the two founders of the hotel brand, Serge Benjamin and Jérémie Trigano, co-founded Club Med together in the 1950s, are veteran figures of the modern hotel industry. According to the hotel's website, the two founders chose to create a new hotel brand in the 21st century in order to shed the burden of history and face 21st-century travelers with a brand-new look. The hotel's founder hopes to open stores in obscure, little-known communities in the city, allowing guests to rediscover the charm of the city.
It wasn't until 2008 that the first Mama Shelter hotel opened. Six years later, the group received a 35% stake from Europe's largest hotel group AccorHotels. Today, Mama Shelter's hotels are already covering 12 destinations, including London, Paris, and Los Angeles.
