On March 11th, the Xin Cheng Police Station of Feidong County Public Security Bureau received a report from a citizen that there was a fox wandering on a bridge in Feidong County's Dazhong Road.

The little fox was surrounded by police officers, panicked and trying to escape, but it was careless and was caught from behind with a net. Which one could withstand it? A staff member from the Hefei Wild Animal Protection Association told reporters: 'When we found it, we found that it had a wound on its hind leg, and it wasn't convenient to move, so we wanted to rescue it.'

This little guy is a red fox, a provincial-level protected animal, and it is rare in the wild. It was sent to the aviary in the Longqi Wetland Park of Feidong County. 'We bound the wound on its hind leg and fixed it. Now we are limiting its movement in a cage to minimize its movement, and we will give it anti-inflammatory treatment after it recovers. After it recovers, we will build a new cage for it and put it in the cage.'
On March 15th, after a few days of treatment, this red fox looks good, although it temporarily lost its freedom, but it eats well and doesn't picky. 'We mainly fed it fish and turkey legs, chicken meat, and some dog food. It's about to enter its molting season, and we hope its fur color changes will be more beautiful.'

Red foxes are generally shy and vigilant, and they usually stay away from people. This red fox is an exception. The staff judged that it might have been abandoned by a private owner. 'If a wild fox is kept in a cage, it will become very agitated, jumping and bouncing and bumping into things. But this red fox is very quiet in the cage and doesn't fear people. Furthermore, we can see from its fur that it is relatively clean and has no parasites or foreign debris. This indicates that it was raised in a clean indoor environment. Also, its claws are long, which is normal for wild foxes, but this red fox's claws are obviously long.'
The staff said that foxes are not suitable for private keeping because they have a strong odor, which most people cannot tolerate. Secondly, foxes are wild and aggressive and can hurt people. Furthermore, they may carry pathogens. Thirdly, protected animals like red foxes are not allowed to be privately kept. 'According to China's Wild Animal Protection Law, keeping three-category protected animals also requires a Wild Animal Husbandry and Breeding Permit. Private families generally do not meet the conditions for breeding and raising protected animals, so it's difficult to obtain this permit, so it's illegal to keep it without a permit.'

Now, the red fox's leg injury has healed, and after the aviary opens, interested friends can come and see it.
