The People's Daily has repeatedly reported that Oriental White Storks are thriving in Yangzhou's 'Home' in Haigang.
Today, the Oriental White Stork flock in Haigang is growing increasingly large. According to statistics from the China Grid Haigang Power Supply Company and others, the number of Oriental White Stork nests in Haigang has reached 40 this year.
Based on the calculation that one nest hatches 3-4 chicks, at least 120 Oriental White Storks were 'born' in Yangzhou this year.
Many Oriental White Storks 'hatched'
Over the past few days, the China Grid Haigang Power Supply Company and the Yangzhou Green Willow Bird Photography Art Center have conducted an investigation into the breeding situation of Oriental White Storks on Haigang's high-voltage towers.
The bird enthusiast,, said that from the current perspective, many nests have Oriental White Storks emerging from their shells, with parents starting to feed them fish and shrimp, and they endure wind and rain to bring food to the chicks.
On the 10th, Haigang experienced a strong wind. said, 'Oriental White Storks build their nests on high-voltage towers, which is a very windy place. The little birds are rarely looking up.' Because of the greater wind force, if the chicks stand up, they are likely to be blown off and injured.
Haigang has 40 Oriental White Stork nests
Last year, the China Grid Haigang Power Supply Company discovered that there were 20 Oriental White Stork nests on high-voltage towers in Haigang. The largest nest hatched 6 Oriental White Storks, and other nests generally hatched 3-5.
China Grid Haigang Power Supply Company's Transmission and Dispatch Inspection Center Chief Zhu Xiaobo introduced that this year, the number of Oriental White Stork nests in Haigang continues to increase to 40. They observed that Oriental White Storks have a phenomenon of utilizing old nests to reproduce. 'New nests are quite different from old nests, and they can be easily identified.'
said that like many bird species, some use and abandon old nests, which is a normal phenomenon.
Last year, each Oriental White Stork nest was located and recorded, and this year it was also done.
The conflict between electricity and nesting has been greatly alleviated
'The population of Oriental White Storks is getting bigger and bigger.' Zhu Xiaobo believes that the population of Oriental White Storks in Haigang will reach about 200 this year.
'40 nests, at least 80 adults.' Zhu Xiaobo said, 'plus 120 chicks (calculated), the total will be around 200.'
said, 'With the further improvement of the power supply company's protection measures, the conflict between electricity and nesting has been greatly reduced, 'which is beneficial for the expansion of the Oriental White Stork population and may attract more Oriental White Storks to come here.'
