Haikou: Hainan Poyu Deer Move to ‘New Home’

Before being transferred to the new pavilion, the Hainan Poyu deer were staying in the old pavilion with iron wire fence (January 21st photo).

On January 21st, the Hainan Tropical Wild Animal Park transferred 18 Hainan Poyu deer to a new pavilion opposite the old Poyu deer pavilion, which is equipped with ponds, sandpits, lawns and trees, to create a more natural habitat for them. To eliminate the Hainan Poyu deer's unfamiliarity with their 'new home', Hainan Tropical Wild Animal Park staff members scattered sand and Poyu deer droppings from the old pavilion into the new pavilion. Hainan Poyu deer are a national level protected animal and a rare deer species native to Hainan Island.
