The World Is So Big It Wants to Take a Look: 'Escaped' Black Swan Returns to the Flock

Swan appears in Nian He River

Food tempts it closer

Successfully capture it in the river
Yangzhou Wusixi Lake Scenic Area's waters, with mute ducks, green-headed ducks and swans, have become an important 'partner' for tourists. However, a few swans in the scenic area for a long time also 'had the world so big, I want to take a look'. Recently, one swan 'escaped' from the scenic area and wandered in the waters outside the scenic area. Yesterday, after the effort of the special guards in the scenic area, it was finally 'caught' and 'brought back'

After introducing swans into the scenic area, the swan family members have increased year after year. On the one hand, the scenic area has a dedicated feeding point to ensure that the swans 'eat enough'; on the other hand, many tourists also feed. It can be said that the swans 'enjoy a life of abundance' here, so their descendants are increasing.
These swans born in the scenic area have not cut off their wings, and after reaching a certain extent, they spread their wings and soared into the sky. This is also the reason why visitors can see swans flying over Wuxin Bridge in recent years.
They not only can fly over Wuxin Bridge, sometimes they fly too far and leave the scenic area to go to the waters outside the scenic area. Special guard leader Luo Chunming said that over a period of time, they received several phone calls from citizens 'saying that our scenic area's swans went out, but every time they went, it ran away'

Food tempts, successfully seize it
'First of all, don't scare it away.' Luo Chunming said that after planning, they brought the swan food and scattered it little by little on the shore, watching if it reacts.
Seeing the 'food' on the water, the swan naturally moved closer, stretched its neck to eat the food on the water, but it was very vigilant, putting the food on the shore, it was in the water below, it would not leave, nor would it let people approach.
'It's very courageous, just one meter or so away from you, you can't catch it.' The special guards, seizing the opportunity, immediately plunged into the water and successfully caught it, and 'brought it to the shore'
Luo Chunming introduced that after being caught, the swan was a little scared; but after returning to the scenic area, it was normal again and rejoined the other swans.
'It was still a bit cold, we special guards went into the water wearing clothes, and we were completely soaked.' Luo Chunming introduced that it was worth it to ensure the safety of the swans and go into the water again.
Yangzhou Swans in large numbers
Fixed feeding points will not stay away
The original habitat of swans is Australia, it is an important ornamental waterfowl. Before 2016, black swan breeding needs to be processed for breeding and reproduction permits, after 2016 it is no longer necessary to process, people can breed according to the need.
Currently, swan breeding in Yangzhou is mainly Yangzhou Zoo, Wusixi Lake Scenic Area and other places, as well as some other scenic areas and farms. Yangzhou's experienced bird watcher Gu Lei believes that escaping swans in the wild generally need a good water environment to survive, but it is necessary to prevent human interference, especially to prevent theft.
Why repeatedly received citizen feedback but did not find swans? Gu Lei explained that usually, swans will not stay in one place for a long time, it will move according to the need. Even artificially bred swans have not lost their ability to fly if their wings are not cut off, their flying ability is still strong. From observation, the swans in Wusixi Lake Scenic Area fly very fast and at a large distance.
For swans with fixed feeding points, they generally won't stray far from the feeding point. Even if they leave, the swans will eventually return on their own after a period of time, but it doesn't rule out that some of them will survive autonomously in the outside world.
