10,000 Chinese Ducks Deployed to Border to Eat Locusts – ‘Duck Army’ Makes UK Media Appearance

Recently, the locust plague in East Africa is particularly severe, and it has now spread to China's western border, bordering Pakistan and India.
UK's Daily Star reported on February 19th that a video recently caused an impression, with thousands of ducks 'deployed' to China's Xinjiang border, 'fighting' against locusts.

In fact, these videos were taken in 2000. These brown ducks are called 'duck troops' and their mission is to find and eliminate locusts. Moreover, ducks are more effective than insecticides when dealing with locusts.
From the video, you can see the text '4000 billion locusts are approaching China from the India-Pakistan border, 10,000 duck army is urgently assembled to meet them'. The duck troops are seen marching along with the locust swarms and then eating them.
A local man from Xinjiang, Xiao Wang, said that a 'young' duck can manage 4 square meters of land occupied by locusts. These locusts are also edible and can be ground with breadcrumbs and fried in oil, which tastes very good.
In 2017, farmers who had previously suffered from locust plagues caught the locusts and sold them as food. 'Our corn harvest will certainly be reduced, but catching locusts can bring me profit,' said a local person interviewed.

The report said that the 'duck troops' video had a hot response on social media Twitter, and netizens exclaimed that it was amazing, and they hoped to see more 'great activities' about ducks.
Kenyan officials said that the locust swarm has spread 60 kilometers in Kenya, which is the most severe locust plague in 25 years. And because of food shortages, Pakistan has declared a national emergency, and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said it is the most serious locust plague in decades.

Watching the dense locust swarms greedily nibbling on crops is really, we look forward to China's 'duck troops' winning them soon.
