Why Golden Retrievers Cannot Be Police Dogs – They Lack Deterrent Effect
Police dogs have played a significant role in investigations, so German shepherds are selected for their excellent performance. The selection of police dogs is very strict. Not all dogs can be police dogs. Golden Retrievers cannot be police dogs, what's the reason?
Police dogs are generally trained by police departments through strict selection and specialized training. Trained police dogs have certain operational capabilities.
Generally, a dog starts training from four or five months old, and it takes about a year to train it to become a police dog.
Golden Retrievers, also known as Golden Retrievers, are also called Golden Dogs. Golden Dogs cannot be police dogs because they perform police duties with Labrador Retrievers, they are too docile, love to interact with strangers, and are prone to wandering...
Golden Retrievers are one of the three most non-aggressive dog breeds in the world. They are extremely docile, have a very sensitive sense of smell, and are on par with Labrador Retrievers. They are intelligent and have good stamina.
Golden Retrievers have been used as police and rescue dogs in many countries, but they have been dropped in China. The reason is that their functions overlap with Labrador Retrievers. Golden Retrievers are larger than Labrador Retrievers, and excessive size is a problem for search and rescue dogs.
Furthermore, Golden Retrievers are too docile and hospitable, they are willing to make friends with strangers and are very prone to wandering, a little favor will make them follow you.
Ignoring these shortcomings, Golden Retrievers can still perform part of the work of police dogs, of course, don't expect them to catch criminals!
Golden Retrievers belong to the world's three most docile dog breeds. They are extremely docile, have a very sensitive sense of smell, and are on par with Labrador Retrievers. They are intelligent and have good stamina.
Currently, Germany, Rowena, Labrador, Spanish and Spaniel are the main dog breeds used in China, and most of them require purebreds.
When selecting excellent working dogs, the first consideration is whether they have the qualities of a good police dog, not their pedigree. Of course, if it is a guard dog, it is necessary to consider the appearance of purebred dogs.
(One) Inducement
Inducement is to use food, objects, behavior and other factors to induce dogs to make certain actions, in order to establish conditioned reflexes.
This method has a guiding effect, it can arouse the dog's appetite and excitement, especially dogs love to eat food, dogs are more likely to be excited, to make dogs actively participate in training, can quickly learn actions.
Due to this stimulation being active, the actions that dogs make are natural and willing to execute, especially when training subjects are used, the training effect is good.
However, this method cannot guarantee that the dog can accurately make the action in any situation, especially if the method is not used properly, such as excessive rewards, this will affect the dog's excitement.
Therefore, when using this method, it is necessary to note the following three points:
First, when using inducement, it should be combined with a certain degree of coercive means at a certain time, so as to ensure the smooth progress of training and maintain the dog's excitement, prevent the inducement from replacing verbal commands and gestures.
Second, it is necessary to prevent inducement from causing adverse associations, such as some dogs are nibbling without nibbling quietly, which is caused by lack of attention during training.
Third, it should be used according to the dog's nervous type, characteristics and appropriately, for calm, quiet and not very excited dogs, more use; for excited, flexible dogs, less use.
(Two) Coercion

Coercion is to use mechanical stimulation and threatening tones to force dogs to make accurate actions. Coercion methods are mainly used in the initial stage of each subject, in order to strengthen conditioned reflexes, and used in the initial stage or when not going well in the external inducement.
However, the following two points should be noted:
First, when using coercion, it is necessary to timely and moderate, combining mechanical stimulation and corresponding degrees with rewards. Excessive coercion can inhibit the dog and affect its attachment to people.
