White River Dolphin Has a Chance of Species Recovery
For a long time, most people believed that the Baiji dolphin had already gone extinct, but in 2018, someone took a photo of the Baiji dolphin surfacing in the Yangtze River. This shows that the Baiji dolphin has not yet gone extinct. The World Wildlife Fund's Red List of Threatened Species has not yet determined that the Baiji dolphin is extinct, maintaining its existing rating of 'Critically Endangered'.
Now the Yangtze River basin is starting to take environmental protection seriously, and the water quality of the Yangtze River will continue to improve, which reduces the threat of pollution to Baiji dolphins and other aquatic animals.
The most important reason why the Baiji dolphin has become fewer is overfishing, which leads to food shortages. Baiji dolphins have large bodies and cannot eat small amounts. Now that there is a ten-year fishing ban, the fish population in the Yangtze River will gradually recover, and the Baiji dolphin's food source will no longer be a problem.
Therefore, we have reason to believe that the number of Baiji dolphins in the Yangtze River will gradually increase.
