Panda Cub Dies After Being Strangled by Climbing Rope – Fans Blame Management Oversight!
On April 9th, confirmed by the Dujiangshan Panda Base, the panda cub ‘Lu Lu Zi’ (born August 10, 2019, female) died from suffocation due to the climbing rope wrapping around its neck.
Around 2:00 AM on the 9th, ‘Lu Lu Zi’ climbed onto a wooden frame with climbing toys in the outdoor playground of the Panda Base Kindergarten and hung there motionless for several minutes before stopping struggling and dying. Due to the late night incident and the difficulty in distinguishing between the cub’s resting position and the position with the climbing rope, the night patrol personnel failed to notice the abnormality.
Because the kindergarten was constantly livestreaming and sharing with netizens, some netizens said that they noticed ‘Lu Lu Zi’ hanging motionless during the livestream in the early morning and felt it was abnormal, so they called the Dujiangshan Panda Base. However, the call was not connected.
The poor ‘little kid’’s body was hung up for a night, and it wasn’t discovered until the second day.
Many panda fans are heartbroken: ‘I still clearly remember Lu Lu Zi’s last silhouette, a small dumpling leaving helplessly and desperately under the livestream camera, which made me cry and shiver.’
Some netizens criticized the center’s entire management system, pointing out that many signs indicated this. Just like when Yu Lei fell, it took a long time to find? What about Xiao Tuozi getting stuck in a tree now? This time, Lu Lu Zi died and no one found out for so long, which shows that it’s not just the problem of the keepers, but also a problem with management from top to bottom.
The biggest controversy is that the center separated the cubs from their mothers and let them live alone in the kindergarten. This is because some say that the mothers didn’t pay attention to the cubs, which led to accidents, so the center kept the cubs isolated in the kindergarten to be fed.
However, some panda fans refuted this theory: ‘Only a small number of pandas won’t take care of them, most are instinctive mothers, how could they not love their cubs?’
‘It’s a good little cub, it should have lived with its mommy! You just want to have centralized kindergartens! You just want to separate mother and child!’
Some netizens posted videos as evidence. When young cubs and Sheng were stuck in crevices and faced suffocation dangers, the mother Qinghe didn't just stand by and watch but used all her skills to finally save the cub.
