Recently, scientific researchers in the Fujian Longqi Mountain National Nature Reserve discovered a small bird with brown waist, fish scale spots and white vertical stripes on its abdomen during fieldwork. It was suspected to be a meadow pipit.

In 2016, its threatened level was upgraded from Least Concern to Vulnerable.The meadow pipit is a small pipit. Its body length is about 14.5cm. Its beak is brownish, and its upper beak is grayish-black. The head has a short crest. The male breeding plumage has nearly black head with yellow-white eyebrow and cheek markings, white throat; the neck and waist are chestnut brown, with light brown feather edges, the back has dark brown vertical stripes; the abdomen is white, with brown vertical stripes on the two flanks; the upper wing has light brown small coverts, the upper wing is mainly black with light-colored feather edges, with two brown-white wing spots; the tail is mainly black, with brown central tail feathers on the outside, and the outermost tail feathers are mainly white. The male non-breeding plumage and female plumage are darker in color, with a nearly white spot on the back of the cheek. The beak is dark gray, with grayish-pink at the base. It mainly lives in plains and low-mountain forests, shrubs, farmland and other habitats. It often gathers in small groups and mixes with other pipits.
