Daxin Detian Grand Waterfall: The Longliu Fairy Realm of 'Flower of a Thousand Bones' and Huo Jianhua
When first-time visitors to Guangxi travel, they are often 'Guilin's landscape is the best in the world, and Yangshuo's landscape is the best in Guilin.' These phrases can mislead people into getting lost in Guilin and Yangshuo, which are crowded tourist destinations. If you think you've enjoyed the 'best in the world' scenery just by visiting Guilin, you're very wrong. Let's take you to see the Longliu Fairy Realm in Zhao Liying and Huo Jianhua's popular drama 'Flower's Thousand Bone'!
This fairy realm is the largest in Asia and the fourth largest in the world, located at Datian Village in the Chongzhou City of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, bordering Vietnam's Democratic Republic. It is adjacent to the border city of Datian County.
There are three ways to reach Datian Waterfall:
One, take the 70-odd-kilometer mountain road from Big New County via Big New County via the Longhu Forest Park; you often see wild monkeys along the roadside. Ask locals for food.
Two, take the high-speed train to Chongzhou City to reach Datian Waterfall. This route involves disembarking at High-speed train station first, then driving about 20 kilometers through Longhu Town to reach Datian Waterfall.
Three, take the Jingxi route and drive along the border highway to reach Datian Waterfall.
Datian Waterfall spans both China and Vietnam, with magnificent momentum and spectacular scenery. It is connected to the Ban Yao Waterfall in Vietnam, and the River flowing through the waterfall's downstream is in both China and Vietnam.
Guangxi is one of the important distribution areas of karst landform in China. Karst refers to the English translation of 'karst' in the geological term. Thousands of years ago, frequent volcanic activity on Earth released magma to the surface, and after the cooling of the rock, the current karst landform with its unique shape, beautiful scenery and wondrous creation was formed. You may not know the popular dramas 'Tea is Hometown Strong' and 'Wine is Hometown Strong' twenty years ago, but you should know that in recent years, Zhao Liying and Huo Jianhua's popular drama 'Flower's Thousand Bone' were filmed in Guizhou's Gupo Mountain and the landscape in Big New County's Mingshi Plain and Datian Waterfall.
Twenty years ago, the popular drama 'Tea is Hometown Strong' made the popular filming location of Gupo Mountain in Hengzhou famous. Many tourists have been attracted to visit it, and the sequel 'Wine is Hometown Strong' is even more outstanding because of the beautiful landscape of Datian Waterfall. In recent years, it has become the longliu fairy realm in 'Flower's Thousand Bone'.
Some hidden scenic spots are famous not only because of a good drama or movie, but also because some photographers who don't take the usual route will discover and reveal beautiful places in the wild. This trend has been accelerated since the internet became a daily part of our lives in the past ten years. This has led to excessive development. Datian Waterfall is a good example. The new tourist entrance has been moved ten kilometers from the original Datian Village, and it's a common trick of many scenic spots – in addition to entrance tickets, tourists also have to buy extra tickets for the 10-kilometer round trip to the tourist center. And this 10-kilometer route is a section of the S325 Provincial Road. It is not only charged, but it is also difficult to enjoy the beautiful Guichun River along the roadside when driving along it.

Currently, Datian Waterfall has a somewhat awkward situation: Vietnam built a dam upstream in 2015. We didn't see the waterfall until noon because Vietnam didn't release water. We only saw a dry Datian Waterfall for half a day.
If it's not your first time visiting, and you're running out of patience, you just won't see the waterfall until you're out of patience. I was thinking, if there's a drought and the upstream doesn't release water, how can tourists see the waterfall?
There are many Vietnamese merchants selling fragrant sandalwood bracelets at the tourist area. Please don't take them seriously, even if the merchants demonstrate that they can sink them in the water, don't believe them. It's not that we discourage buying, but it's okay to buy for fun. We're with a Chinese-Malaysian friend, and we live in Datian Mountain Resort. This resort has been demolished recently. This friend went out to explore on his own this morning and was persuaded by a Vietnamese aunt to buy a bracelet for 50 yuan, saying it can sink, so he believed it. Seeing that he broke it up and threw it away, haha.
After we left the waterfall again, we encountered several more Vietnamese merchants asking us to buy their bracelets. One of our companions joked with them, '50 yuan to buy this bag of bracelets is almost the same as buying it.' She immediately gave him a bag containing several strands of various bracelets, and he bought it immediately, saying it was just ordinary wood and worth the price. We waited for him to send it back to the tourist area, and he bought it.
When we had lunch, I couldn't help but try to burn it with a lighter, but the smell of plastic burned off, causing him to immediately throw it away, haha.
I'm using a 28-300mm zoom lens on my camera to get closer to the Vietnamese tourist entrance on the other side of the river. Looking at that simple tourist entrance, we know the tickets there will definitely not be as expensive as here.
Beautiful Datian, blessed by nature, refreshing and invigorating – it's a great place to experience nature's beauty, but now the development and management have made it seem meaningless to me.
