The Ideal of a Garden Residence
Longyou is a small county in southern Zhejiang, located at the junction of plains and mountains. It takes an hour by high-speed train from Hangzhou, and it takes 5 kilometers driving along the countryside road to reach the project's Houshan Head Natural Village. The village still retains its unique rural style, and a large expanse of rice fields south of the base stretches to the distant undulating mountains, presenting a familiar old rural landscape.

Spatial Sequence – Cube
The building site consists of a 12*10 meter square. The front yard is a 'Rosetta Garden', with various flowers, and the back eaves are not shaded by willows. The first floor living room and dining room are connected by a 7-meter wide concrete floor, serving as an extension of indoor activities. The entrance door acts as a prologue, with a tall connecting hall, transparent and ritualistic, a cube-shaped staircase connects the first floor public living room and dining room, the second floor's family hall, the third floor's tea room, and finally arrives at the semi-shading, semi-translucent balcony, adapting to weather changes while also considering roof inspection, overlooking the distant scenery. The outdoor scenery, combined with the continuous public space, creates a sense of movement and change with the scenery, which is the core of the entire building. Five bedrooms are reasonably allocated around the main line.

Internal richness and simplicity, the rustic and understated appearance and colors are our basic interpretation of Jiangnan rural architecture. While economizing on construction costs, it also ensures minimal energy consumption. Under the double-sloped roof with a golden ratio, appropriate areas are set aside for tiger windows and skylights, enriching the facade while improving the lighting of north-facing rooms. The entrance's full-height glass wall serves as the main axis of the facade, and the combination of different-sized windows in various functional spaces constitutes the building's geometric expression. The roof is further covered with a traditional wooden overhanging eaves, leaving space for air circulation, which combines the richness of the wooden structure and integrates insulation and beauty. The exterior walls incorporate the texture of straw paint and the base of local stone, expressing the characteristics of the countryside, which is then integrated into the entire rural structure.
