According to Xiamen Evening News report, the new-generation weather radar array ‘Tian Yu Zhou’ located on the peak of Caijian Taili Mountain in Haicun, although it has not yet been open to the public, its surrounding weather park has already welcomed citizens and tourists. People can now reach it through the newly built elevated bridge. Today is ‘World Meteorological Day’, the reporter came to the park yesterday to feel the beauty here as well as the splendor of the city’s highest elevated bridge.
The reporter started from the bottom of Caijian Taili Mountain, walking along Weather South Road and Weather North Road. From the bottom to the top, there were two gatehouses, after passing the second gatehouse, citizens and tourists would measure their temperature before being allowed to enter, then walk a short distance to reach the location of the elevated bridge.
This elevated bridge embraces the mountain waist, from the bottom, it looks like a dancing ribbon, at night, when the night lights are lit, it looks like a flying rainbow hanging on the mountain waist. Standing on the bridge, you can overlook the city landscape, which has a certain sense of superiority. The elevated bridge can accommodate two small cars, and there are often mountain bikers riding up the hill.
The reporter continued to climb along the elevated bridge and reached the location of ‘Tian Yu Zhou’. This is a large steel-structure building resembling a ship, with a white large sphere at the top, which is the new-generation weather radar array. Caijian Taili Mountain’s altitude is about 400 meters, ‘Tian Yu Zhou’ radar tower is built on the top of the mountain, with magnificent momentum, next to a small square and various walking trails and green landscapes.
At the entrance of the square, there are signs, including the Xiamen Typhoon Technology Museum and the Red Cross Disaster Prevention and Reduction Experience Center, which are currently not open to the public. However, many citizens and tourists who arrived here did not feel disappointed. Some citizens said that they had seen ‘Tian Yu Zhou’ from afar, and this time being able to reach it nearby was already very satisfactory.
Background
'Tian Yu Zhou' can ‘see’ 460 kilometers away.
It is reported that ‘Tian Yu Zhou’ was designed by national-level architectural master, Professor Qi Kang of Southeast University. Aerial view of ‘Tian Yu Zhou’ will make it look like a traditional Chinese compass, as well as a ship that came to the sky and crossed the water.
'Tian Yu Zhou’s’ core ‘weapon’ is in its top spherical, which is an advanced SA-type dual-polarization Doppler radar, which is the first fully domestic radar system in China. Compared to traditional single-polarization radar, it can collect more meteorological target information and has stronger discrimination ability. Dual-polarization radar is particularly outstanding in detecting dangerous weather such as typhoons, heavy rain and hail, and its detection radius reaches 460 kilometers. Xiamen's main dangerous weather is short-term heavy rain and typhoons, so the role of dual-polarization radar is even more prominent.
