Jixiang Village is Xi'an's Most Famous Slum - Do You Know the Origin of Its Name?
Jixiang Village is likely the most famous slum in Xi'an. According to a statement on a certain platform, 'After tourists visited Xi'an, the most memorable thing for them was the Terracotta Army, followed by Jixiang Village on Guanghuang Road.' The reason for the name Jixiang Village is known to everyone in Xi'an, which can be summarized in six words: 'Auntie will tell you a story.' It's a joke and a reality. In the past, Jixiang Village was a chaotic place, but it has been completely renovated now, no longer a chaotic scene.

The three words 'Jixiang Village' left a deep impression not only on tourists but also on locals, who would smile mysteriously when mentioning the name, as if there were unspoken stories.

Actually, Jixiang Village is one of the oldest slum communities in Xi'an, and one of the few remaining slums within the Three Rings Road. Jixiang Village was originally called Jiahua Village, with a village dating back to the Jiajing year of the Ming Dynasty. It was renamed Jixiangbao during the Tongzhi year of the Qing Dynasty, and then renamed Jixiang Village in the Republic of China, and it has been used until now.
During the Ming Dynasty, the area of Jixiang Village belonged to the suburbs, with a large area of farmland. Originally, many people with the surname 'Ji' lived here, and eventually the name Jiahua Village came into being. The villagers with the Ji surname made a living by growing vegetables, and more and more people came, which led to the name Jixiang Village.

Like many slum communities, Jixiang Village offers cheap food and accommodation. Many fresh graduates choose to start their careers here, because the cost of living is very cheap here, which is very suitable for people starting their careers. The rent is 300 yuan per month, a bowl of black rice milk porridge is only one yuan, and 7 yuan can buy a bowl of meat dry noodles.

With the development of the city, Jixiang Village has now become a central area in Xi'an's south suburbs, and the Three Rings Road Line 3 station is also located here. Perhaps in a few years, Jixiang Village, like Siyao Village and Yuhua Village, will become history. What special memories do you have about Jixiang Village?
