Riding Camels to Travel and Seek the Jiangnan Region in the Ordos Desert, Ningxia
The lonely smoke rises straight, the long river and the setting sun are round, every time I read this sentence of ancient poetry, a beautiful desert sunset picture appears in my eyes. This is a famous sentence written by Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei, and it is one of the reasons I wanted to come to Shapotou.
Shapotou is located on the southeast edge of the Tengger Desert in the western part of the Zhongwei City, Weinan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The scenery here is very rich, integrating desert, Yellow River, mountains and oases. It not only has the magnificent and exotic scenery of the Northwest, but also the beautiful and delicate scenery of the Jiangnan region.
The vast and boundless scenery of Ningxia makes people feel a sense of grandeur when standing on this land. Coming to Shapotou can not only enjoy the beautiful scenery of nature, but also experience many exciting desert projects.
Shapotou extends westward to the head of Todongdun, and northward to the Tengger Desert, and southward to the Yellow River. It is about 38 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide, with an altitude of 1300-1500 meters. There are many interesting projects to play.
Here I first saw the sheepskin raft. I thought it would be very heavy, so I took it up with my hands to feel it. Seeing the large sheepskin raft, I didn't think it was as heavy as I imagined. When chatting with local people, I learned that the average weight of such a sheepskin raft is only about 20 kilograms.
Sheepskin rafts are a traditional ferry tool preserved by the people along the Yellow River. The sheepskin raft has a history of more than 300 years and is an important part of Yellow River culture. The feeling of drifting down the Yellow River on it is very magical. I think the ancients were ingenious in inventing such a special transportation tool. Now we just experience it as a tourism project. In ancient transportation, the sheepskin raft played a very important role.
Standing on the sand dune of Shapotou, you can see the opposite bank of the Yellow River is the world's first Yellow River cableway crossing the Yellow River. The figures rushing past my head looked very exciting.
When you come to Shapotou, it's a favorite activity for adults and children to slide down the largest natural sand slide in China. Sliding also requires a certain balance technique. It's easy to slide down, but it's hard to climb back up.
Seeing children playing happily in the desert, you can see how happy children are in nature. Shapotou is known as China's last virgin land. The natural scenery and recreational projects here attract tourists from all over the country.
Visiting Shapotou can do sheepskin raft rides, sand sliding, high-altitude cableways, and ride camels to enjoy the desert scenery. According to statistics, Shapotou's tourism income can reach 20 million annually.
