Stone Desert Turns Green

The Nanchuan Mountain Pits Karst National Ecological Park in Chongqing once suffered from severe soil erosion, with rocks, shrubs, and weeds everywhere, which local residents called 'Chicken Nest Pits'. In the early 1980s, afforestation began here. Over 30 years, the forest coverage rate has increased from the initial 68.4% to the current 95.5%. In 2015, this place became the first karst national ecological park in China.
