Fifth Tai Ping Hou Kui Non-Material Cultural Festival Successfully Held

Every year's spring tea is the key to spring for all tea lovers. On a sunny April day in late spring, the six hundred miles of wild tea valleys in Huangshan also brought news of the harvest of Tai Ping Hou Kui.

On April 12th, the Fifth Tai Ping Hou Kui Non-Material Cultural Festival was successfully held in Huangshan, Huangshan District, Wushi Town, Pao Yuan Village, Six Hundred Miles Base.

The event was hosted by Huangshan Six Hundred Miles Hou Kui Tea Industry Co., Ltd., and organized by Huangshan Smart Tourism Co., Ltd. and Anhui Star News Media Co., Ltd. It was supported by Huangshan Tourism Development Co., Ltd. and Huangshan Sifudi Tourism Culture Industry Development Fund.

The theme of this Tai Ping Hou Kui Non-Material Cultural Festival is 'Ecological Hou Kui, Helping Farmers to Prosper'. The opening ceremony included tea ancestor sacrifices, reciting the regulations of the Hall of Virtue, and a product display area. At the opening ceremony, Huangshan Post and Six Hundred Miles Hou Kui also signed a poverty alleviation cooperation agreement with cooperatives. 'Life is like tea, tasting tea is also tasting life. The rise and fall of the world is like the fluctuation of tea. When floating, we should be calm and steady; when sinking, we should be light and serene.' In the Pao Yuan wild tea valley, a man dressed in gray and white robes, with a topknot, sat meditating over a tea tray, using tea knowledge to educate tourists, letting them experience the joy of tasting tea.

It is reported that there are many varieties and shapes of spring teas, and Tai Ping Hou Kui is one of the most distinctive varieties. Each piece of Tai Ping Hou Kui tea is about 5 to 7 centimeters long, with two buds and leaves, with a green and moist appearance, and white hairs hidden. What locals call 'Hou Kui with two pointed heads, not scattered, not drooping, not rolled' is due to its flat and straight shape, naturally unfolding.

Unlike other spring teas, Tai Ping Hou Kui uses the large leaf variety, which means the tea tree has a long growth cycle, and the leaves must grow to one bud and four leaves before harvesting.

The special thing is that it doesn't get old easily. If other spring teas, like Hou Kui, become bitter and old when they are mature, this tea does not. Because of this special feature, Tai Ping Hou Kui only starts harvesting in mid-to-late April. During the tea busy season, people get up early every day to climb the mountain before the mist dissipates, and they cannot harvest before the sun comes out. The Hou Kui harvested in the morning must be processed on the same day. A piece of Tai Ping Hou Kui tea needs to go through nine processes – harvesting, picking buds, spreading flat, pounding, shaping, and drying – dozens of crafts, to create a piece of Tai Ping Hou Kui.

After so many processes, the masters rely on their hands. High-quality Tai Ping Hou Kui is made by hand-picking buds by masters here.

It is precisely because of this meticulous production that Tai Ping Hou Kui, especially the core production area, is rare in yield, and Tai Ping Hou Kui is the most expensive and precious tea among the many teas in Huangshan, which is difficult for ordinary people to get.
