Lhasa Independent Trip: Climbing Section
Recommend a place
A place a guide won't take you to
Picturesque scenery, overlooking the surrounding snow mountains and the entire city of Lhasa.
Catch the sunrise and sunset with your eyes.
Shola Temple's back mountain (no ticket required)
Suggestion: Don't climb alone, there are wild dogs on this mountain, it's best to bring some buns to throw to them, I almost got bitten, luckily I ran fast, it's cold on the mountain and it occasionally snows, dress warmly.
There are two routes behind the temple: the first is to buy a ticket to enter, and the second is a free driving route, driving to Dadyi Township Police Station (or take bus 14 to Dadyi Township Police Station), follow the blue marked route on the right, you will see a bridge, after crossing the bridge, there is a path to climb up.
The mountain road is steep, drive carefully when turning, walk along the inner side, strong people can reach the top in about two and a half hours, definitely take the main road, don't take the small paths you see, they are all dead ends.
Lhasa sunrise is around 7 to 8 am, you can see the sunrise, sunset is around 8 to 9 pm, the last bus departs at 9:30, to be safe, it's best to descend before 9 am, it's difficult to hail a taxi there.
